W gives me as bad a taste in my mouth as the Clintoons.

Deep down to the core, they always have been one and the same. Globalists. One slightly more red then the other. One slightly more gold then the other. They have to pass the amnesty now because clearly the combination of El Presidenta Hillary, the House of Saud Iraq War and the signing of Amnesty could spell the end of their agenda. With the entire US military committed to field ops, they have no way to protect their home front from revolution. If amnesty is signed by Hillary while US troops are still fighting for the House of Saud, a revolution is a certainty.

PS - I fully supported removing Saddam Hussein and still do. Never did like the idea of building a democratic nation in Babylon. Heck, they cannot even build one in Gaza or Lebanon.

If the laws that are already in place were enforced there would be no need for this bill. To answer your question of what we want is, enforce the laws already in place. Catch up on the backlog of all immigration data. No Amnesty for any illegal alien. Get rougher with businesses who knowingly hire illegals. Pass a law that if a baby is born in the U.S. to illegal aliens, then that baby is NOT a U.S. citizen.
There are other things we Conservatives want but that will do for starters.

I got a donation plea from “Brownback for President” campaign headquarters. I gave them everything except a $$ donation........then sent it back in their “postage paid” return envelope. :)

“Cause now at least 2 more years will pass before this issue gets looked at again. This bill will die and no one in Congress is going to bring it up in an election year. Like every other serious topic, Congress will do everything it can to ignore this until after the elections now.”

They’re going to give it one more try. I myself don’t dislike the illegals’ attitude for the most part or how hard they work. I say give illegals already here a chance to become Americans, deport the troublemakers and criminals and build a strong border defense system to stem the flow as close to zero as possible. We have plenty of available labor here. We can offer a guest worker program for technical professionals from foreign countries and that would solve problems in itself. I think these are defensible positions politically and fair. We don’t know who’s going to be in control in ‘08, but if it’s a Democrat it’s best to get some sane measures like these in place before Obama or Hillary take over.

You enjoy thousands of illegals marching in the streets telling us they are going to conquer our country?

Maybe you should ask the people who are doing it LEGALLY how “fair” that is.

Nobody should be rewarded for breaking the law. Close the border, enforce the law, up deportations, and then allow LEGAL immigrants to start filling the open jobs.

It dawned on me today that we need to kill this bill just to show the fascist Washington elites of both parties that they still have to answer to us. We need to kill it just to prove to our “leaders” who they answer to.

It is true there is long term trend and a desire by some ideologues to see the end of the nation-state, a concept that itself has been around for 500-600 years, superceding previous concepts of tribal and local affiliations.
it is also true that this ideal is not new, as many saw the World Wars as consequences of nationalism and sought the UN and other institutions to ‘solve’ the ‘problem’ of nationalism. The globalist agenda was born.

HOWEVER ... I believe that in bringing in these wider fears and in some cases conspiracy theories (I have yet to see any nation experience a loss of soveriegnty by building a road), we actually are diluting the immediate issue at hand wrt immigration.

It is tied to wider questions, but it is a more narrow and specific question - DO WE WANT AN IMMIGRATION SYSTEM THAT WORKS, WHEREBY WE HAVE A LEGAL PROCESS TO DETERMINE WHO COMES AND WHO DOES NOT AND HAVE EXECUTION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THAT SYSTEM?

As of today - right now in June 2007 - THE #1 THREAT TO THE EXISTENCE OF A LAW-N-ORDER IMMIGRATION SYSTEM IS THE Z-VISA AMNESTY PROPOSAL IN THE SENATE IMMIGRATION BILL.

Further:
- we can be for economic integration and yet see amnesty as bad (some on the right might have this view)
- we can be against economic integration and yet not care about the trashing of immigration (Many leftists have this view)

“Now I’m agreeing with Pat Buchanan and starting to read NWO conspiacy theories.”
There is no conspiracy ... It’s a consensus. If you need to know more about this groupthink, there is a recent David Brooks column that encapsulated it.

The in-your-face attitude is what doomed them. Really stupid move. What we also need to do now is to stop allowing illegals the ability to easily wire money back to Mexico. Once you do that, the Mexican government may want their slave labor back, real quick.

What was the reaction? Is Gregg going to go RINO on us on this?

Let us know here, keeping the count of senators:

“Know Nothing”!?!?

More like “fool me once (aka 1986 amnesty) shame on you,
fool me twice (aka Kennedy2007 amnesty) shame on me.”

“You don’t fix a broken system by just screaming slogans”

I agree, that is why I reject the idiocies of the pro-amnesty comprehensive-is-the-only answer idiots, who scream moronic and stupid slogans (’we have to do 8something*’ ignoring rule #1 - ‘dont make it worse’).

They are fools, trolls, idiots. And that includes the senators supporting this junky senate immigration bill.

” and sitting around praising each other for the “brilliance” of your purist dogmas.”
Sounds like the disgusting back-slapping of the nefarious senatorial cabal who cooked up this steaming pile.

“So since the dream bill doesn’t have the votes to pass. Are any of you willing to compromise on anything to get what you want on the border?”

Tell you what, if you dont like my offer to give some pocket lint for your $100,000 house, how about we ‘compromise’ and make it ‘comprehensive’ ... I offer you all $88 in my wallet for your life savings? ... what, you wont ‘compromise’?!?

Reality check:
0)
This amnesty repeats the mistakes of 1986 on a grand scale, as Senators Cornyn and Hutchison have warned.
It undermines rule of law in immigration, invites huge fraud in amnesty applications and further illegal
immigration via weak document requirements and a mere 24-hour turnaround on provisional acceptance;
crowds out higher-skill legal immigrants; creates a massive increased burden on taxpayers
($2.5 Trillion estimate from Heritage) along with unfunded mandates on states and local Governments.
And for what, exactly? CBO has indicated that illegal immigration in the next 10 years
will still be significant with this bill - a huge amnesty, but more illegal immigration. Pathetic!
The Z visa legalization/amnesty is a slap in the face to legal immigrants, taxpayers,
and anyone who cares about the rule of law.
This bad bill is far worse than no bill at all.
1) All that is required to MASSIVELY IMPROVE THE SITUATION IS FOR PRESIDENT BUSH TO ENFORCE THE LAW.
2) This bill is dreadfully worse than the status quo. Dreadfully worse. You seem to think there is some
threat to having a Democrat House and Senate ... well,
lookee here, with a democrat Senate, we got a more conserviatve bill (slightly) and less votes for it!
Amazing! And the Democratic House on Friday passed a Tancredo amendment!!! ... yes, we might get screwed.
But we might not. The Democrats might be chastened a bit
WHEN THE GOP UNIFIES AND STARTS WINNING ELECTIONS ON HAVING A SECURE BORDER AND ENDING LAWLESSNESS IN IMMIGRATION!
3) “A straight up strict Border Enforcement bill went to the US Senate in 2006. The Democrat filibustered it. “
Funny ... I seem to recall a president signing a billin October 2006 that authorized a border fence. Such a fence could cut border crossings by 95%. Democrats joined republicans in passing it about 80-20. Bipartisan bill!
ALL THE PRESIDENT HAS TO DO IS BUILD IT!

You have things all backwards ... The “know nothings” have the real solution on immigration - everything else is just noise and misdirection:

This is not over yet. Bush refuses to give up this easily. It's his stubborn character. As I predicted he would try to resurrect it and call it something else. We have to keep our guard up. We need to keep the pressure up. We have no choice but to fight. The oligarchy wants cheap labor and a destruction of the middle class and the millionaire democrats want votes they can count on. A marriage made in HELL.

STAGE TWO is to go after the people who hire illegals. Start giving them fines and arresting them. Just catch ten or 100 of them on the nightly news. The magnet will dry up and most of the 12 million will go home by themselves.

As an addendum, we should anonymously call the IRS, people working "off the books" means taxes ain't being paid. Make anonymous fliers and hang them around the neighborhood, name names. It's time to embarrass these bustards, whether they give to the GOP or Rats, we don't need them.

CALL! CALL! CALL! CALL! AND KEEP CALLING TILL THE LINES FRY!

WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!

Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti illegal immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them. This is a bipartisan issue not a Conservative or Liberal issue BUT AN AMERICAN issue.

STOP AMNESTY NOW!! WE CAN DO IT!!

The best way to stop Shamnesty

I’d invade America and break an unenforced law to escape a country with no opportunity, drug lords running the streets, cops shaking you down for money, an economy ruled by monopolies and a legal system where due process is a joke. Lighten up people! Be realistic so this problem can be solved. I’m no bleading heart but that doesn’t mean I want to see cops getting murdered because illegals don’t want to leave a country where they have put down roots and that many of them do love. Some of them love Mexico and their own race more but there are plenty of pigs that are legal American citizens too. The Dims will hold the race card over Republicans until all of Mexico floods the United States until we will not be able to recognize of country or our language because the opposition will not stop importing foreigners to vote to increase their grip on power. But by mass deporting illegals and looking like the Gestapo to rich liberal campaign donors here and worldwide we enable the Democrats to seize the moral and political high ground over actions that seem extreme and racist.

Close the border, clamp down hard and let them deport themselves. No legalization for invaders, EVER.

I would rather open the gates to ALL those waiting in line, paying for attorneys, and doing it RIGHT.

That describes the entire third world. That is why it is called the Third World. That is also why we have immigration quotas. Otherwise we would be swamped by the Third World refugees.

Obviously, entrusting DC with our National Border Security has given us the same results that we got when we entrusted them with our National Fiscal Debt. So if defaulting on border control is the answer to their national security mistakes, perhaps defaulting on our national debt will also be the answer to their fiscal mistakes.

Yup. They work really hard.

Illegals Using Fire To Clear Border

U.S. Border Patrol agents seeking to secure the nation's border in some of the country's most pristine national forests are being targeted by illegal aliens, who are using intentionally set fires to burn agents out of observation posts and patrol routes.

Armed smugglers of aliens and drugs have walked through the middle of active firefighting operations, the authorities said.

In the Coronado National Forest in Arizona, with 60 miles of land along the U.S.-Mexico border, U.S. Forest Service firefighters sent in to battle fires or clear wild land fire areas are required to be escorted by armed law enforcement officers.
