BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. Kelly Brannigan was suffering from a case of tattoo remorse.
Just a year ago, Ms. Brannigan, 24, who holds up Case No. 24 as one of the models on the NBC game show Deal or No Deal, had been full of hope when she and her fiancé had each others names tattooed across their inner wrists.
But now, when she looks at the letters P-A-T-R-I-C-K she is reminded of the failed relationship.
For help, she turned to Dr. Tattoff, a chain of tattoo removal stores where nurses use lasers in a series of treatments to break down tattoo pigments. Dr. Tattoff is part of a growing industry catering to people who may not have thought about the implications of forever the first time around.
Removing tattoos is costly, uncomfortable and time-consuming, but the affinity for body art is so strong that some people say they do it to clear space to tattoo all over again.
Many dermatologists specialize in laser tattoo removal, and some laser hair-removal centers are adding services. In California, there are removal centers like Dr. Tattoff, Tat2BeGone and Tattoo MD.
Most of Dr. Tattoffs clients are women ages 25 to 35, said James Morel, the chief executive of the company, which has given more than 13,000 tattoo laser treatments since opening here in 2004. Maybe women are getting more tattoos than they used to, Mr. Morel said, or maybe they just have a higher level of tattoo regret than men.

Tattoo removal? The next big business?
But now, when she looks at the letters P-A-T-R-I-C-K she is reminded of the failed relationship. Failed, for one thing, because his name was Don.
LOL, I had an ex beau and bought him a coffee mug with his name on it. When he married his maid cleaning his hotel room in Fl, I took the cup back to the coffee shop and had his name ex’d out. Wouldn’t put a tatoo on myself for anything.
“The next big business?”
Head removal. Why keep something that doesn’t work?
Whenever I see some of those large tatoos on folks in early 20’s I wonder what they will do when they hit thier later years, and tats are out and thier skin sags with time. Not a pretty picture sitting on the porch of the old folks home with some outdated and worn ink work.
Tattoos are so stupid and gross.
My kids names would be the only names tattood on me.
I had a gang tattoo nailed to my arm when I was about 16. Had it removed by laser about 10 years ago. Took three treatments and the skin is unnaturally light where it used to be, but I am sure glad it’s gone.
Probably a lot cheaper now, but when I had mine removed each treatment cost more than $300 bucks — close to a thousand dollars for something that was put on with ink and spit.
Find an easy way to remove tattoos and you’ll become rich overnight. My idea is a “reverse tattoo” which uses an organic bleaching agent in the place of ink. Failing that, a belt sander.
I told my wife a couple of years ago, when I started seeing more and more young people with tattoos, that tattoo removal was going to be a big business in 10-20 years. It amazes me when I see this people in their early 20s covered in tattoos like carnival people.
I'm in the navy and see my share of horrible, garish tattoos on young guys (and gals) and think the same thing. It used to be just getting a tattoo was enough to show your wild side. Now it seems that massive inkwork that covers huge swaths of body is where people are heading. And too many of these folks aren't putting much thought into what they are having done.
For the record, I have a tat about the size of a quarter on my shoulder. Got it done about 15 years ago. I wish I hadn't but I don't worry about it enough to consider removal.
"Roger! You Tiger now!!!"
Gads, what a mess.
I feel the same, I too have only one tattoo( had it for 18 years). I on the other hand do not regret it, but it will be my only one.
I saw a young white guy in his 20s walking around the mall with his whole face tattooed like some creepy clown. He looked like people do when they pass out drunk and their buddies take a magic marker to their face. Except it wasn't a magic marker. It was a tattoo.
Just for fun I followed a few yards behind him to to catch the double-takes and looks of mortification he was getting from other shoppers as he passed by.

I am not sure how to post a link to a video about tattoo removal, but it is really funny
The key is to date chicks with similar names (like Johnny Carson - Joan, Joanne, Joanna). Then just add to the tattoo.
Not to mention the fact that they look very unprofessional.
You beat me!
