June 25, 2007 issue - Fred Thompson has a gift for knowing just what to say to anyone, in any situation. In 1998, when Thompson was a Republican senator and a single man about town, New York socialite Georgette Mosbacher invited him to accompany her on an overseas trip. Thompson couldn't go, and summoned the full measure of his Tennessee charm in letting her down. "I am sitting here with a long face and broken heart as I contemplate sunsets on the Mediterranean, which I will not see," he wrote to Mosbacher on his official Senate stationery.

The media will only do stories with the goal being to turn conservatives away from anyone who can win the general election. It was funny, the other day at MSNBC.com on the front page they had a link to a George Will commentary. They never have him on the front page. It is always Jonathan Alter or Elenor Clift. But the day they had the Will link, his story was a bash at Thompson. I know I should not expect any different from the MSM, but I still get disgusted by their tactics.

Oh, those silly gnats are at it again, don’t let it get to you. :-) I don’t mind if a politician has warts. It’s when they cover it up obviously with ten pounds of makeup and try to tell us there’s nothing there that I get bothered! ;-)

Oh, and IN BEFORE THE FRED PING!!

You're right. I read the article and there's not much there. Newsweak is trying to build doubt among conservatives on some real sketchy material.

Damn, they're scared Thompson!

Are you out of the loop. The True Conservative meme of the week is that the MSM is supporting Thompson to prevent either Whathisname or Thatotherguyyou'veneverheardabout getting traction for the Republican nonimation.

Many of the Fred Thompson threads, any Mitt Romney thread and some of the more contentious Duncan Hunter threads.

What a nice way to say no to someone. A True Southern gentleman. As for his message to Clinton, Fred used to smoke cigars, also it looks like that statement could have been taken out of context.

I get you. The meme is here, not in the MSM. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I thought you were saying you had seen it in the MSM. I'll look a little closer next time.

Haha, thats actually funny, Fred Thompson talked a few weeks ago in an interview about the “Bozo’s” who were out there spreading wrong info about him.

The Lefties at “Newswrong” must be getting worried about Fred Thompson entering the race. They can’t find any scandals, so they dig up a bunch of old positions & votes and try to massage them to Thompson’s position on issues today.

Nice try “Newswrong” but as they say down South, “That dog won’t hunt!”

I fail to see why Fred Thompson offering to have a cigar with Bill Clinton is a betrayal of conservatives. Clinton wasn’t a great President ... but he seems like he’d be a great guy to have a cigar and watch a ballgame with.

Politics isn’t always personal. Political adversaries should be able to enjoy time together without having dispersions cast upon them - particularly by the media ... who claims to be looking for a “new tone” in DC.
