It’s not only that the Democrats have stopped promoting democracy abroad, they’re all about stifling it at home. Item: Massachuetts Democrats went to extraordinary lengths to prevent the public from voting on the issue of gay marriage. Item: Democrats want to shut down Talk Radio with the Fairness Doctrine. Item: Democrat dominated universities, colleges and public schools have become cess pools of political correctness and speech control. Item: Democrats want to regulate everything that moves and subsidize anything that doesn’t move.

True enough. We left a sad legacy in Vietnam. Walking away from Iraq won’t be that easy given the geostrategic importance of the region and the nature of the enemy, i.e., militant Islamic fundamentalism. We have a lot more at stake in Iraq than we had in Vietnam.

The Democrats do not support democracy!! When they are in power, all they do is destroy it and our Constitutional Freedoms. When out of power, they state the Republicans are (projection) and hamper all efforts to spread Freedom and representative government.
Until the Democrats rid their party of Communists/Socialists (national and global), wannabe tyrants (it’s “for the children” so do not question them or you are a “bigot”), Islamofascist Appeasers (aka “dhimmis”), and “big brother” control freaks the Dems will NEVER stand for Freedom and Democracy.
Waco, Ruby Ridge, “FBI/IRS Gate”, REAL illegal wiretaps against Republicans, “FileGate”, suspicious deaths of Clinton’s Political foes and evidence holders, denial of basic Constitutional Freedoms (Unconstitutional “gun control laws” and the “Fairness Doctrine” being just two examples), and a DO NOTHING response to terrorism DO NOT promote security or democracy!
The Democratic Party is NOTHING but a bunch of tyrants in waiting. The Republican party needs to take note.

The article referenced is from Rolling Stone and is a criticism by a leftist on liberalism. As usual with a leftist, they do not QUITE understand why they are wrong. I will give the writer credit for introspection, but his inability to see the murderous evil of his base philosophy, socialism, and his usual leftist projection of acts on the right leaves me shaking my head at the predictable sophomoric argument.
The REAL meat of the article is in the “comments” section. This is where the REAL democrats, the “revolutionary socialists” rip into the author. Here is just on quote which pretty much sums up what the Left thinks of Freedom.

IMO, the leadership of the Democrat party along with most Democrat politicians, are nothing more than political opportunist. Liberalism is far more subject to being co-opted by opportunist than conservatism. That is why the Dems appear to be fascists. They really do not care about the common man or the common good - only to the extent that these serve them as political advantage.
They fancy socialism not because they think it will help people, but because socialism will help the opportunist politician gain and maintain power. When their opportunism is taken further it looks like fascism. When taken to extremes, it looks like communism (more exactly, Stalin-ism).
The thing that today's Dems lack is the guts to be communists. Lacking guts seems to afflict the Repubs, too, but its manifestation is to have the leadership of the Repubs look like...er...well...Trent Lott.
YOu underestimate the nastier sort of Democrat.
Actually the Dems believe in govt. socialism and redistribution of anyone’s wealth via tax increases. Democracy they may indeed like if they could have votes on everything especially in Red States. What they do not believe in , is republican democracy. And since they are today’s isolationists, why help anyone under an Islamic and especially a socialist dictatorship all round the globe? If the USA is attacked by one of these thugs, the Dems can always blame Bush and the GOP and probably get away with it.
