Romney surges in California, according to robo-poll

I did not know how Mitt would do in a more moderate to liberal state like CA but it appears that his appeal is catching on like wildfire. This article is from the Sacramento Bee and I thought it might have been a misprint or a farce but it appears that the Mitt army is on the rise in the West. It is an exciting time as people start to see why Mitt is the best person to lead this country.

Romney surges in California, according to robo-poll

Support among California Republicans for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has surged to 32 percent, a 20-point jump since February, according to a Datamar Inc. poll released Thursday.

The results of the GOP poll, which was conducted June 6-11 by robo-calling 572 California voters, showed a drastic shift in next year’s presidential primary, with support for previous front-runner Rudy Giuliani dropping from 40.9 percent to 14.7 percent.

Arizona Sen. John McCain’s numbers also fell, from more than 17 percent to 5.4 percent, which put him behind both Rep. Duncan Hunter of Alpine, who polled at 11 percent, as well as the still unannounced Fred Thompson, 5.9 percent.

The poll claims a 4.1 percent sampling error.

In the Democratic contest, the Datamar polling showed fairly static results, with Sen. Hillary Clinton up slightly from 34.3 percent to 36.9 percent, Sen. Barack Obama also was up slightly from 23.6 percent to 24.3 percent and former Sen. John Edwards down from 16.2 percent to 14.8 percent.

The Democratic survey polled 507 respondents and has a 4.4 percent sampling error.

Go Mitt Romney!

It is not hard to see as more and more voters look at Mitt and his impressive background and solid achievements, they like him more .

This is hardly the case of other candidates.

There was another thread about this poll from the Duncan Hunter perspective last night. There were a number of people questioning the methodology and finding issues with the demographics of the people polled.

I’m not saying that Mitt isn’t doing well in California. I’m just saying that this particular poll is a little odd.

For this poll to be valid, it needed to include only Giuliani, Romney and Thompson on the GOP side of the divide. None of the other GOP candidates are relevant at this point. The inclusion of irrelevant candiates, and the exclusion of Thompson, probably means that the numbers are misleading.

Thompson was not excluded. He polled at 5.9%, incidently ahead of McCain.

This poll is slightly more reliable than a web poll.

Thompson was not excluded.

I stand corrected.

In this context, there is no way this robo poll is accurate. No possible way.

This poll has serious issues (robo polling) and is way out of line with other polls in the same state.

He's also done very well in collecting donations in conservative San Diego County. He's resonating with voters across a broad spectrum....Iowa, New Hampshire, California.

Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts who leads Republican presidential contenders in raising money, is also the top cash collector in San Diego County. Romney, who has raised $23 million nationwide, has gathered $430,800 from San Diego county residents, according to the Center for Responsive Politics at www.opensecrets.org. Romney, whose son, Matt Romney, works for a real estate firm in San Diego, surged past the previous leader, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois. While Romney holds the top spot, the next three spots are all held by Democrats: Obama is second, followed by Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-New York and former North Carolina senator John Edwards. San Diego's homegrown candidate, U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Alpine, is in seventh place. He's collected $141,750 from San Diego County residents.

The polls you posted are all old. They are from before the Amnesty fiasco.

According to this poll, rudy's and mccain's numbers have collapsed:

If they polled outside the cities into the rural area of Ca then this might be true, there are still some very blue areas of CA left, you just have to drive far to get to them.

“I did not know how Mitt would do in a more moderate to liberal state like CA but it appears that his appeal is catching on like wildfire.”

Liberals are popular in liberal states, they tend to do poorly in red states though.

No, they're not. It's not that things can't change. But as of now, only those three are relevant. As of now, polls need to report what the results are when only those three can be chosen. They can and should also track the others--but should use a separate question for that purpose.

Sorry, that poll is so far out in left field it has to be taken with a bag of salt. Until another poll shows similar results in California, I can’t buy into it, nor would any rational person. Even if it showed Fred getting that kind of results, I would say the same thing.

The link on the article doesn’t go to the “Bee Capital Bureau”. It links to an “Elect Romney in 2008” website.
