President Bush yesterday told Hispanics to step into the middle of the immigration debate and make sure senators who have been bombarded with calls from opponents also hear from those who support the bill.
"There's a lot of emotion on this issue, and it makes sense to have people from around the country come and sit down with members of Congress to talk rationally about the issue," he told those attending the Hispanic Prayer Breakfast in Washington yesterday.
He was speaking a day after the bill, which collapsed last week, was revived by the top Democrat and Republican in the Senate.
Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, agreed to put the bill back on the Senate's schedule next week, and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, agreed to limit the number of amendments Republicans would offer.
But roadblocks are already popping up.
Sen. Jim DeMint, South Carolina Republican, said he will block any attempt to send the bill to an eventual House-Senate conference, complicating the usual path a bill takes to reach the president's desk.
"Ted Kennedy has sold us another bill of goods and I don't trust him to make even more changes...

Thank-you. Next week requires every patriot to campaign tirelessly against the shamnesty bill. One question I always ask is “Do you or anyone in the staff of Senator -——personally know any illegals? If not, then what makes you assume that any significant percentage of them want a “Path to citizenship”? I know many illegals and I have yet to talk to one who says “Man, what I really could use right now is a path to US citizenship.”
If any doubted that the president is completely removed from reality, his comments implying those against the bill are intent on doing the wrong thing for america, yet he surely must know his base is against this bill.
So he rewards his base with an insult as profound as saying “You folks on the right are intent on doing the wrong thing for america.”
And to think that I stood up and countered the protesters against him when he came to Fresno.
Vintage Bush in the throes of "compassionate conservatism" and "new tone in Washington".
Our elite Washington traitor class are really pushing that amnesty/citizenship plan so they can completely trade one group of voters (us) for an entirely new group of dumbed down, ignorant voters (12-20 million illegal aliens plus the other 75 - 100 million Mexican invaders expected soon thereafter.
Best line: “we set aside our politics and come together in prayer.” Which leads me to think “they’d better be praying for themselves and their political futures.”
Never underestimate the skills of both political parties to figure out ways to demonize each other, take advantage of anything and everything as a means to get themselves in power. They put on a very expensive entertainment, and we are craven fools enough to subsidize it. They are ALL THE SAME PEOPLE who play at being “the loyal opposition” to one another.
Who else would introduce an impeachment resolution except Ron Paul, and isn’t he already judged to be marginal in the Party. Now if Romney or Rudy had to guts to do it.....or Thompson.......hmmmmmmm
Nice, real nice. Pres. Bush tells illegal aliens to "appeal to U.S. Senators" so that the loud voices of American Citizens, get drowned out.
Unfortunately, most Senators "no comprendo Espanole, gringo."
Then you should refrain from tossing insults as well. You will do better using logic.
We need to pay close attention.
No. He is just like Duh-bya. He wants to be, I guess. I have always been a little creeped out by those kind of guys, knowwhuddamean?
It sure does. Let's hope the effluent flows away from us.
“I voted for him twice and am no Liberal.”
————You didn’t have to be, but he was, and is.
Bush has proved to be, as I have said for months, the WORST kind of Republican, a shape-shifter who sees the best way to keep his failed Iraq policy funded until it has to be discarded, is to Out-Lib the Libs on the OTHER big issue facing us, and in playing “Leader” on that one, he is probably able to go farther and be more relentless in his pursuit of it than any elected Democrat/Liberal. Chalk up another tragic result for the “either/or” game of American politics.
