Personally I think America is a lesser nation because it did not have Bork on the USSC.

Bork v. Bork

I'm a little hard of hearing, but I try to compensate when I hear someone gainsay the Second Amendment, the first among equals and my favorite. Mr. Bork and Mr. Will are not strick constructionists.

No, he isn't Reagan. He never was.

He's a nice enough man with fairly conservative credentials. He's tall and has a reassuring voice that comes across well on television. That's about all he has in common with Reagan.

He doesn't have Reagan's executive experience or skills. And he doesn't have Reagan's all-consuming passion for the job.

>I had read a few things too, that I don’t recall where, that he is a globalist.”

I object to bringing one’s personal appearance into the argument. We are all born with the faces that are the luck of the draw.

But I think the globalist idea comes from his Lincoln Club dinner speech, where he said: “On globalism — we’re not afraid of it. It works to our benefit. We innovate more and invest in that innovation better than anywhere else in the world. Same thing goes for services, which are increasingly driving our economy. Free trade and market economies have done more for freedom and prosperity than a central planner could ever dream and we’re the world’s best example of that. So, why do we want to take investment dollars out of growth and invest it in government?”

I liked it better when we were a prosperous manufacturing industrial nation, perking along beautifully, creating wonderful opportunities for anyone who work for it to achieve their dreams. Far better than a ‘service economy’, for sure! And our abysmal trade deficits are not economically thrilling, by the way.

The ultimate goal of globalism is One World Government.
(step one - Bush’s NAU treaty) which is planned to usher in The New World Order, which is, in reality, the old Communist Order. (Step two - Bush’s pushing of S 1348, the current push for amnesty for 20 million illegals. and his abolition of border security) (Step three - Bush’s push for adoption of the Law of the Sea). These are not the moves of a conservative, nor a patriot.

Referring to anyone who is against the above as “protectionist” is far fetched if not an outright lie.

Bush and his cronies (advisers) are all globalists. The CFR is rampant in government, business and banking.

Fred Thompson is going to be viciously attacked by somebody no matter what! Where’s the surprise here? If Fred Thompson truly can’t take the heat, then he shouldn’t be in the kitchen to begin with! I believe that Fred Thompson will do fine during his entire duration of running for President-that is if Fred does finally make it official that he’s running for President. He’s smart enough to truly make the best of efforts on his Presidential run. What is Fred Thompson waiting for?

I wasn't expecting another Reagan. He died a few years ago.

I'm sure there are some who are trying to create a an overblown image only so they can shoot him down later. I only expect Fred Thompson to be himself.

Good grief. CFR is mainly a foreign policy think tank. Foreign policy geeks write papers. Issues are all over the map. Some are for the NAU, some are against.

For a super secret world domination organization, the membership standards are pretty pathetic. Angeline Jolie is a member.

Of course you MUST be an United States Citizen to join. I wonder how that works after they wipe the U.S. off the map.

Maybe you should at least look at the website before you decide that there is some big conspiracy.

He hasn’t “hired” her. She is an unpaid advisor.

Actually, real conservatives already knew Thompson was NOT Reagan. Nobody is Reagan .. Reagan was Reagan.

We need to focus more on CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES and not a specific person. If a candidate espouses and practices conservative principles then he should do well in any election.

Fred never said that. Fred hasn’t commented on any of his opponents. He’s commented on the Dem platform, but hasn’t attacked specifically.

There’s only one Ronald Reagan.

That said, Fred is a darn sight better than Rudy or McCain, and light years ahead of all Dems.

IMHO.

And it seems that anyone who comments on Thompson has to make an obligatory reference to his reputation for laziness on the job.

A lazy, do nothing president. The idea appeals to me. : )

He is waiting until the end of the fundraising quarter, so he can start his campaign with an encouraging fundraising announcement, not only a single month’s take. He couldn’t
announce last month due to contractual obligations.

I don’t think taking an extra month is unreasonable.

Fred Thompson isn't an empty suit. Yes he'd been a lobbyist, but apparently not a very active one, since his average income from that profession netted him a whopping average of $65,000 a year over the last 20 years. He's done much more than just lobbying, and even more than acting.

I like his ideas, better than what I've seen from any others. I don't consider him a globalist, but I sure don't want a protectionist for President either. It's a big world, and we need to be an active part of it.

Yes....when I heard he’d hired Carville’s wife....I was disappointed.

Why? Mary Matalin is actually a pretty good political operative.

Because this thread is nothing more than an excuse for the peanut gallery to get their digs in. I think the poll where Thompson gets almost double all the other candidates combined speaks for how well they’re doing with their efforts.

I actually am LEANING toward Thompson.....so I’m NOT “getting digs in.” I just don’t like the idea of a political operative who sleeps with the enemy being on my candidate’s team.....
