Different conservative blogs have different pet issues -- government transparency, federal judges, Fred Thompson, to name a few.
But no issue in recent memory has united conservative bloggers like the debate over immigration. Their frustration has culminated in a full-scale revolt against the Bush administration and a Senate bill that activists say does little to solve the country's border security problems.
President Bush's pledge to support $4.4 billion in additional border security funds has breathed new life into the bill, but the drumbeat against the legislation shows no signs of quieting. (Watch how senators revived the immigration bill )
It's increasingly clear from Web postings and interviews with top conservative bloggers that the immigration bill has done serious damage to the president's credibility among the conservative netroots, the grassroots bloggers on the Web.
Erick Erickson, managing editor of the popular conservative blog RedState.com, says he receives between 800 and 900 e-mails a day from readers, most of whom are "enraged" by the White House's immigration efforts.
"Of all the issues the president has picked to make his hill to die on, he has picked the one that has divided his base," said Erickson, who lives in Macon, Georgia. "I am shocked by the anger and outrage out there ... You've got war against the president within the Republican party."
When details of an immigration compromise were announced this spring, conservative bloggers were immediately incensed. Michelle Malkin labeled it "a White House betrayal."
Another popular blogger, Hugh Hewitt, called the bill a "fiasco" and wrote: "this push for this bill is a disaster, Mr. President."
Bloggers: Secure the border first Conservative bloggers make various arguments against the bill. Some say the bill grants amnesty to illegal immigrants who have already broken the law.

Well you don’t have to apologize for not knowing who I am.You see Jorge I really don’t care if you know who I am BECAUSE Jorge you’re no more important here then I am !!!
The trouble with you theory is that yeah he knows where his power comes from and it sure as heck is not us because we never supported him in the first place - other than Bushbots.
We are not worth his time because there is no support here - we are written off and he is finding support elsewhere.
The bigger question than our hurt feelings at his name calling is “Why the excessive pressure to get this through, why is he willing to ignore the conservative prior support, why is he willing to push through a bill with so many loopholes?
Is it because there is something he knows that demands that the immigration bill be pushed through now before the democrats take over the government?
Is it because he is luring the democrats into some trap?
Is it because he is taking the first step toward establishing the North American Union or alliance which he feels will be the only effective way of solving the bleeding borders? Is this the first step that will then mean we are no longer needed as he will have the votes from the illegals to push through the North American Union or a version of it?
Another point - notice we are not hearing from Cheney. Normally Cheney would be involved in the promotion - not this time.
Okay, so I went on that link and I don't get it. That thread is protected, but they get to sit around and discuss how horrible we are on same thread, and come on threads about the amnesty bill and debate it, but we can't comment on that thread? What's up with that?
By the way,I haven’t noticed you because of your great intellectual postings,I’ve noticed you because of what an a-hole you are on a lot of the threads !!!
Oh no. Is the "slice and dice" expert tired?
keep trying sweetcheeks !!!
Globalist interests.
No, I don't think he's an idealist, I think he's nothing but a puppet with no loyalty to America.
Understatement is right we are fuming!!!!!!!!!!
The Mexicans are just like the “Palestinians.”
You don’t hear what I do in Spanish. Yo habla Espaniol mui, mui buen... (I don’t write it well.)
You also didn’t notice the Mexicans chanting “Osama” during a soccer match with the USA??? Or how about all those carrying signs that glorified Bin Laden during those protests last spring?
We have open warfare in the streets with Mexican gangs.
Mexico has never been and never will be a friend of the USA. They even oppose our war efforts to this day.
Screw Mexico...
For the president to revive this bill after all the outrage shows utter contempt for all of us!
It is my understanding that, as soon as the bill is signed, they will be here legally, and offered Z visas. Should they apply for one of those visas (there are different types, IIRC), the government has 24 hours to complete a background check on the applicant. If, however, the government is unable to complete said background check in the 24 hour time frame, the applicant is automatically granted the Z visa. And, should any be caught here illegally, ICE is instructed to help them obtain a Z visa.
It is my understanding, also, that should they desire to become American citizens, they have to do what is called a "touchback". They have to return to their country of origin and apply for citizenship. They will be placed behind all of the applicants who have spent years trying to enter this great country legally, which is the only right thing to do.
I haven't waded through all 600 pages either, so if I'm incorrect on any of this, I hope someone will be so kind as to correct me.
You're right Obie. And your posts are so infantile that I'm actually beginning to like you.
And I apologize for anything I've posted offensive or insulting to you.
You are certainly as important as I am, if not more so. You are the slice and dice man. What it is bro!
Friends from Ohio, Minnesota, Florida, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, North Carolina, and especially Arizona, are complaining bitterly about illegals invading their communities and sucking their social services, schools and hospitals dry.
Bush has become a puppet dictator. Is there not a spine in Congress to impeach him?
Nahhhhh, Only Congress has the power to declare war...
You are certainly as important as I am, if not more so.
Ha,ha, well it took ya long enough to realize it ya dope. I’m sacking out now,but you keep polishing that picture of GW now ya hear !!!
A riot is an ugly thing ... and I think it is just about time that we had one.
I was just going on what Rush was saying a while back.
......Once the president signs this bill, forget it folks, they are American citizens - there will be none of the controls.
There is no way the government could handle the paperwork of the Z visas in one day - therefore the loophole allows them to dawdle and, lo, guess those will have to be given the Z’s. This will transfer into all being handled purposely slow, and at day end, all given Z’s.
If the senate can not write better law than a 600 massive pile of paper rife with “oh, my gosh, a mistake” loopholes, they should be thrown out of office.
They are going to do to law-writing what the Reagan amnesty did to trust of government.
You give him way too much credit. What has he done that would give you that sort of blind confidence in his judgment? Besides, if he had some secret reason that remotely made sense it would have leaked out long ago. This administration leaks like a sieve.
As for support elsewhere, well, let’s just say with a 29% approval rating, he’s lookin’ for support in all the wrong places...
As for Cheney, maybe it’s just simply he has too much integrity to shill for a bill that he, like 80% of Americans, is against.
He’s got every well know conservative voice in the country against him. The base was his last line of dense and he blew it up. Now, he’s defenseless. He better hope his real enemies don’t get anything substantial on him for the remainder of is term.
He will go down in history as a great leader.
And you will be forgotten.
You never answered by questions? Are you ignoring me?
Are you an environmentalist? Gosh - can’t remember the others and no time to check back - so goodnight.
See conservatives are so much nicer than than those on DU - no wonder you want to hang out here. But, watch out, that may make you forget the party talking points.
