Los Angeles (AP) -- Four dead dolphins have washed ashore with fatal bullet wounds and fifth with lacerations on its pectoral fin, said authorities who have offered a reward for information on the slayings.

The long-beaked common dolphins were all discovered between Carlsbad State Beach and Oceanside Harbor between May 29 and June 5. Photos showed their normally sleek gray skin mottled and stained with blood from the bullet wounds.

"It's a horrendous thing that happened," said Mark Oswell, spokesman for the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration. "That someone would go out there and shoot four dolphins."

Necropsies revealed that the dolphins, which were healthy with bellies full of fish, may have been shot at the same time with the same gun. Four had between one and three bullets of the same caliber in the same part of their heads.

Someone already beat you to the obligatory abortion reference. However, if you’re really creative, you might still be able to work in a TS tie-in.

Ever notice in these stories that there’s never a reference to whether the dolphins were illegal immigrants?

What is this going to do to Miami’s Super Bowl chances?

“Because they are predators they should be shot?”

No the fact they are predators does not mean they should be shot. Nor should the shootings be put in the same context as the murder of humans.

Unless someone shot the dolphins in order to defend himself or someone else, slayings seems to fit.

"IF it was a fisherman, this would be no different than shooting coyotes who are killing your sheep."

Bullcarp. The fisherman does not own the fish

was it by accident or were the shot on porpoise

That reminds me of a joke. It is the very Platonic ideal of a bad pun.

A scientist discovered an elixir of youth that would prolong a dolphin's life indefinitely. Oddly, one of its ingredients was baby seagulls. One day he ran out of seagulls and went out to fetch more. To his surprise, he found a full-grown lion lying asleep on the doorstep of his lab when he returned. He tiptoed over the beast without waking it, opened the door, and was promptly arrested by a cop who happened by.

The charge was for "Transporting young gulls across a staid lion for immortal porpoises."

IF it was a fisherman, this would be no different than shooting coyotes who are killing your sheep.

I once went after salmon on a big party boat out of Monterey. I got the only bite of the day, a grand fish that probably weighed twenty-five pounds. As I battled it to within a couple of rod lengths of the boat, a sea lion came from nowhere and cut it in half with a single bite, leaving me nothing but the head.

If I had had a rifle in my hands and no witnesses, I guarantee you that thing would have been stone dead in two seconds flat.

What's wrong with babies being more important than dolphins?

Still playing the thread nanny huh?

BTW, I didn't "come out of nowhere", you posted on Free Republic.

I read FR.

Which reminds me, I haven't yet seen your retraction of the vacuous lie you posted about me here on FR.

Judging by where they were found I’m guessing that the Chargers did it.

I guess it’s possible that the Broncos might have hired illegal aliens to do the job that Chargers won’t do.

"Bullcarp. The fisherman does not own the fish"

Unless you are claiming that the dolphin has an equal "right" to the fish as the fisherman, then your "ownership" argument is specious.

Wild drug smugglers thinking these Dolphins worked for the Navy might explain it. Or just an idiot.
