Hannity had a caller the other day that was talking about a "No Match Letter" he received from the Social Security Office. It made me search for what this letter was about.

.

three examples of letters the SSA sends to employers and employees:

DECOR employee letter (Letter SSA sends to directly to workers)

DECOR employer letter (Letter SSA sends to employers about an individual worker)

EDCOR letter (Letter SSA sends to employers about a group of workers)

The management people at SSA are charter members in the open borders lobby. They should all be fired and replaced by real Americans.

Dear Business Owner -

You will be subject to severe penalties if you

a) Employ illegal aliens.
b) Inquire as to the legal immigration status of your employees.

These are people who are in the SS system, but the names don’t match the numbers.

There are 9.5 MILLION of these in teh system, according to the Social Security Administration. Useful information for those who say we “can’t find” the 12-20 million illegals in this country. These 9.5 million would be a darn good tart.

I had no idea they were still sending those out. It has been a great many years since I last saw one.

Gee I'm surprised the sent a letter normally they don't bother...

I had an illegal using my ssn to report for five years.. the IRS, SSA, and California Franchise Tax board could care less

In was the California Franchise Tax that told me by mistake... went to their office to get copy's of reported income for the last five years...give them my SSN and the worker ask are you (Hispanic name) that works at (so n so) Medal Works in Santa Ana CA?.... I say "No" and the say "Oh".... you must be (my name)...

I ask "you have two name very different names at different locals and different jobs reporting full time income under the same ssn and the same time and you do not check or raise a red flag?"...Per them "No, and we are not suppose to tell you either"

Went to the SSA office gave them my ssn and ask "Do you have more them one name reporting under this SSN?" Was told..."We would not tell you that"...

This is what the people who think that employer sanction's will solve the illegal alien problem don't understand. I've taken a few classes on how to follow the federal immigration laws, and it's an impossible situation for small businesses, the way the law is written now.

Imagine yourself as a small businessperson, receiving this letter. How exactly do you deal with it?. You can't fire them, it's clearly against the law as defined in the letter.

If you do, you can face not only the government fines, but just imagine if your employee gets a lawyer and files a discrimination suit against you ? There are armies of lawyers out there looking for soft underbellies, like yours, to make a killing.

Secondly, did you know that the SSA's own information is wrong 20% of the time ? There are all sorts of reasons, other than illegal hood, that can cause non-matches.

It could be as simple as a maiden name (and lots of Hispanics use two last names); a father/son or other relative with the same name, a case of identity theft ( but who is the thief, and who is the victim, and how are you supposed to know ? the only information you have is a non-match letter), and the burden of proof is on you.

You can't just fire them upon suspicion, you must have legal proof. This requires a lawyer, but you're a small business. You can't afford to hire a lawyer just to do legal searches on employee's backgrounds. it's not cost effective.

You can't run their info before you hire them, that's not allowed.

And, you can't fire them, according to the letter above.

I have gotten several of these over the years. They get really pissed if you call and ask them any questions. I called INS on two guys once and they came out and collected them. They were back in a week wanting their jobs back with new numbers. Of course I called INS again and they didn’t even come out. FWIW two of those letters were sent on people I have known for years. It was the result of errors in the SSA computer. EVERYONE should request a copy of their records from SSA at least once every two years - they are one messed up place.

I became a US citizen when I was a kid and moved to US over 20 years ago. I am a registered voter (which doesn't really confirm my citizenship, anyone can register to vote, legal or not). However every time I start working for a new employer the same letter is received about my SS# received 22 years ago. Upon all my visits to the SSA's office to question their stupidity they keep telling me that their system shows me as a US citizen however they cannot explain why the letter keeps going out. INS and IRS have me as US citizen, all pertinent government agencies show the same, including the SSA however SSA keeps contradicting itself with this idiotic letter. How are we to feel secure about their accuracy when they can't handle the database for US citizens? I cannot even begin to comprehend what would happen if the (sh)amnesty bill would have passed.
