A mayor in the US state of Louisiana says he will sign into law a proposal to make wearing saggy trousers an act of indecent exposure.
Delcambre town council unanimously passed the ordinance earlier this week making it a crime to wear trousers that show underwear.
"If you expose your private parts, you'll get a fine" of US$500 (£254) Mayor Carol Broussard said.
Offenders will also risk up to six months in jail.
Fashionable
Speaking of people who wear saggy trousers, Mr Broussard told the Associated Press news agency: "They're better off taking the pants off and just wearing a dress."
Town attorney Ted Ayo said the ordinance expands on the existing state indecent exposure law by adding underwear to the list of forbidden exposures.
"This is a new ordinance that deals specifically with sagging pants," Mr Ayo said. "It's about showing off your underwear in public."
Some residents say the ordinance targets blacks, as low-slung trousers are fashionable among hip hop fans.
Mr Broussard denied it was racially motivated.
"White people wear sagging pants, too," he said.

Surreal. Expect the Justice Brothers (Sharpton and Jackson) to make an appearance very soon.
Absurd, despotic, and needless.
They’ve outlawed plumbers.
Racist, racist, racist. It’s always the battle cry.
Frankly, I don’t care what the color of the posterior is. I just don’t want to have to see it. Period.
saggy trousers: a fashion style courtesy of our beloved citizens of New Aztlan .
what ever happened to the good role models the wannabe’s want to be ?.....many youth these days are pathetic jokes.
It’s a classic, spiteful assault on people that he himself perceives as “cooler” - people with no remittable grudge on him whatsoever. This mayor is compensating for serious personal problems.
I don’t want to see someones pants below their but in public. Am I compensating for serious personal problems too???
Jeans that were "too tight" used to be the modern scandal. The real crime - both then and now - is simply being young.
Nothing changes.
I don’t want to see someone’s pants below their either. Am I compensating for serious personal problems too?????
Stupid. Has anyone else noticed that noone wears “baggy trousers” anymore.
Paging Mr. Peabody....
So if the new fad was going around nude that would be fine with you?
Yes, given that public nudity is already a crime, but you would demand a separate law proclaiming how pants must be worn rather than simply not associating with such individuals.
...is proving that government has too much damned time on its hands.
And exactly what serious personal problems do I have?
How can I not associate with people in public when I am in the public too?
Also where did you get your degree in psychology?
Exactly what serious personal problems do I have?
What do you mean by not associate in public?
I go to a gym where some guys wear their pants below their but. Should I stop going to the gym? Why should I stop going to a gym I pay to go to? And don’t tell me they pay too. Paying monthly does not give someone the right to do whatever they want. This is the me generation where some people do whatever they want regardless of the other people around them.
Also where did you get your degree in psychology?
Well, half the “young men”, to use the term loosely, at the water park my children and I go to have their underwear at a normal level, and their swim trunks’ waist band cutting right across their rear end. It is pretty disgusting.
U.S. town set to ban saggy presidents.....
If I see some dufus with their pants below their butt, I just think “Look at that asshole” (no pun intended) and go on my way. Government should stay out of it.
This is not racist. Just as many white kids are doing the same thing in inner cities. I live in Tampa and all the kids are doing it. All the kids that think they are cool.
I say make the ban nationwide....
You might think it’s a silly, needless law but my husband and I had occasion to be sitting in the hallway of the couthouse in Pomona, CA a while back. While we were there we saw several parents with teenage boys going in and out of the courtroom. The boys all had one thing in common—you guessed it—baggy pants slipping off their bu**s.
