A roadside bomb blast has killed at least seven soldiers in southern Thailand, police said.

The blast destroyed the truck carrying the patrolling troops in Yala province, killing them instantly.

Violence in the three southernmost, Muslim-majority provinces has killed more than 2,200 people since 2004.

Muslim insurgents have been increasingly targeting both soldiers and Buddhist civilians with bombings and gun attacks.

Police said the troops were heading to a school in Bannang Sata district to provide security for teachers.

The attack was one of the deadliest this year.

Teachers have become a major target of the bloody conflict as they are seen as a symbol of the state. More than 200 schools have been torched and 77 teachers killed, according to education officials.

ROn Paul says the thai gov’t should listen to them. No more selling Phad Thai mixes to Israel.

Just as many Muslims as Buddhists are getting murdered by murderers who only care to pit Muslim vs. Buddhist and who enjoy killing just for the sake of killing.

Shooting female teachers at point blank range in a library, burning down schools, shooting people in the back as they go to their rubber tree fields to work, taking the bolts off of railroad tracks to derail trains, blowing up young men playing in a soccer match... all within the last week.

Per capita, this is worse than Iraq. And getting worse. But, all my bleeding heart liberal friends in Thailand say it’s all Thaksin’s fault; but he was ousted last September so that argument wears thinner by the day.
