Very well stated. I just received this from Sen Elizabeth Dole in email — she is on the side of Inhofe and Sessions. Looks like she doesn’t trust the NRSC for donations or the Bush folks:

Dear friend,

When it comes to amnesty for illegal aliens, I’ve never paused, hesitated or stammered – I say I’m flat out opposed to it!

I opposed amnesty when I ran for the U.S. Senate in 2002. I fought to defeat the amnesty bill that passed the Senate in 2006. I fought tooth and nail to take down the amnesty bill that ultimately failed on Thursday.

In fact, I cast the deciding procedural vote Wednesday night that ultimately broke up the coalition of Senators who were trying to ram this bill through the Senate. (click to read article).

The immigration problem indeed raises many tough questions – and I am certain that the bill Harry Reid was finally forced to pull off the Senate floor Thursday night is NOT the answer.

This legislation put the cart ahead of the horse. It rushed to legalize millions of illegal aliens – that is NOT the urgent matter at hand. We must deal with the real crisis and first focus on securing our borders and enforcing our laws. We are a nation of laws – it’s time we act like it!

Up to a million illegal aliens cross the porous southern border each year.

No immigration reform legislation will succeed – not even good reform (which the Kennedy bill was NOT) – unless our borders are secure.

For decades, Americans have been promised a secure border, but it hasn’t happened. Consider the recent legislation that authorized 700 miles of fencing – astoundingly, just TWO miles have been constructed!

Americans are rightly cynical about any promises to secure the border.

My parameters are simple: One, we must secure the border. Two, we must enforce the laws already on the books and empower law enforcement officials to do their jobs enforcing them. Then and only then we can take up immigration reform.

I must be honest with you, many of my colleagues in Congress disagree with me. And President Bush disagrees with me.

The Democrats have promised to soon bring this bad bill back to the Senate floor, and the Democrats are planning a major political assault on me for my opposition. They will use this to try to hurt me in the upcoming election.

Be assured, I will stand firmly against this bill. I don’t care what the political pundits, the media, or the liberals say or think – because I reject the notion that granting amnesty to millions of illegal aliens will solve our country’s out of control immigration problem. I can wage this fight as long as I know you are standing with me.

Please let me know I can count on you:

Please use this contribution button to help my campaign fight back against the attacks that are sure to come.

Thank you so much for your help and support – and thank you for your commitment to a safer, more prosperous America.

Sincerely:

Elizabeth Dole

U. S. Senator

My guess is Libby is being saturated with calls and mail. Her state like mine is becoming a haven for illegals. The problem is in North Carolina in many parts jobs are hard to come by especially in furniture factories which is one of their biggest products. If she buckles on this then she will not be re-elected I can say that for certain. Illegal immigration is taking peoples livelihoods.

I'm in East Tennessee and in my area the biggest concentration of illegals seems to be in two places. One is Morristown where there are some major industrial parks including furniture factories and to the west the DOD Crown Jewell called Oak Ridge. How can our government tell have us living under color coded alerts and yet have persons illegal or not from a nation known to steal our weapons technology living and working there?

The impact on these areas? I live in a rural county near Oak Ridge. Just 5 years ago I felt safe going there late at night unarmed. Not anymore. This area is also saturated with D.O.E. and D.O.D. contractors for everything from the National Lab to nuke weapons plants.

A few years back right after 9/11 a TVA security officer found three M.E. nationals at a dam upstream from Oak Ridge at about 3:00am. The computer files were down so he couldn't run their back ground but he got their names. One was wanted and they were on expired work Visa's. Am I making a mountain out of a mole hill? Well during WW2 the War Department set up machine gun placements at that dam in fear it would be bombed and the Manhattan Project underway a few miles down stream destroyed. That was our standard of national security back then with limited weapon capabilities for our enemies to use against us.

If someone/anyone wants in this country bad enough to live and work here then they want it bad enough to wait their turn. Get a clear back ground check and a clean bill of health as well. Our open borders have opened us up to diseases that were virtually gone from our nation. These nations do not take medication correctly and as a result a person can be carrying a super drug resistant bug.

Last and this is a true story I am not making it up. How bad does someone coming here wish to adapt and become Americans?

Three brothers were born to Immigrant parents from Romania actually 5 were I think but three were noted for success. Mrs Horowitz had three sons one named Moses, one named Jerome, and the other Samuel. The boys were born after they got here. They sent them to public schools and they spoke very clear English despite the fact the mother could not say Samuels name correctly. It came out as Shemp. Yea Shemp. As in Moe, Curly {Jerome} and Shemp the three Howard brothers later to be part of the Three Stooges. Can you detect any hint they are born to Romanian immigrant parents? I can't. The illegals are not here to be Americans. They are here to make us become their culture and insist we adapt to their needs. What a difference several generations makes.
