That was just not done in Feb, 1963. Then, it was just something every young man had to do. It was a right of passage. For most, it was a way "out of the house." You had a six year military obligation to the country and you chose one of several ways to fulfill it. You could not get a decent job beyond the mail room until that time bomb in your wallet that said 1A was taken care of. Things changed in 1965.

How about my #220? A lot easier for people to do. All that’s needed is a national group to get it rolling. Some group like the VFW or American Legion. They’d be perfect...non-political, patriotic and totally unassailable!

No, no you don’t. When I lived in Manhattan (54th and 1st) 25 years ago..it felt cosmopolitian- lots of people from all over the world...but all together..as New Yorkers. My friends and family who still live there tell me the illegal problems there are bad and getting worse...

As someone born under LaGuardia, I lived in NYC pretty much continually through to Bloomberg. (a little college and the service) Though I don’t believe it was his fault, Koch’s second term was when the city started having an illegal alien problem.
