Five-ounce tubes of toothpaste labeled Colgate and sold in discount stores in four states are being recalled because they may contain a poisonous chemical, according to the importer.
A Food and Drug Administration official, Doug Arbesfeld, confirmed that testing had found the chemical in a product with the Colgate label. But he said the agency is unsure if it is really Colgate or a counterfeit.

I only use good old American made Oxyfresh toothpaste.
Once you use it you won’t try any other toothpaste ever.

Oddly enough, it was diethylene glycol in the Elixir of Sulfanilimide incident in 1937 which results in the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act of 1938, which started to give the FDA regulatory power.
There is nothing new under the sun...

Perhaps you could explain to me why Proctor & Gamble would care about the Colgate brand other than general shadenfreude at a competitor’s misfortune?

OMG - Theyre having the fluoride rant again on the other thread!
I didn't see anything about fluoride on the other thread. My father-in-law thinks that fluoride causes cancer, Alzheimer's disease, projectile flatulence, swimmer's ear, clubbed feet, etc. So I'm always interested in what other kooks are saying.
He's on this absurd organic and "all natural" kick. I always tell him that everything on earth is "all natural" (we're not importing stuff from another dimension). He rants on and on about chemicals and hormones and suchlike. He's really ate up with it. I think it's a bunch of nonsense.
Anyway, here's the thread I went to. Am I just missing it?

Thanks for the recipe and the link. My wife has used strawberries on occasion - nothing else, just strawberries mashed into a paste.
I've found that Ajax (the powdered bathroom cleaner) works well to whiten my teeth. Okay, I'm kidding.

another way to ruin america, move manufacturing of goods overseas, fill it full of garbage, and send it back to unsuspecting americans to digest
To: machogirl
What would it take to ever get the manufacturing back here once it is gone?
It is becoming obvious that goods from China, especially food products and ingredients, are very dangerous.
Would D.C. actually want to wage a trade war with China?
Do they have the guts?
