The FReeper Canteen Crew sadly announces the passing of Mr. Tonkin. (68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub).
If you would like to leave a message for his family, please direct them to amom.
Also, we ask that you send prayers to amom, his son Matthew, family, and friends.
We love you, Mr. Tonkin. Say 'hello' to Texas Cowboy for all of us.
You're missed and will never be forgotten.
We hope to make this an online memorial book for his family.
Details will be provided later regarding funeral services.
As a fellow member of the 'club', I'm sorry to see you go. You've been a pillar of this community as you were to your family and fellow service members and you will be missed. God speed!
Thanks to Mojo2001 for the image!
Tonk, you fought the good fight.
You ran the race till the end.
Enjoy your reward and pray for us.
Thanks for everything.
Rest in peace my fellow FReeper.
I pray that peace and understanding will be granted to those you left behind.
All mankind is of one author,
and is one volume;
When one man dies,
one chapter is not torn out of the book,
but translated into a better language;
and every chapter must be so translated;
God employs several translators;
some pieces are translated by age,
some by sickness,
some by war,
some by justice;
but God’s hand is in every translation,
and His hand shall bind up
all our scattered leaves again for that library
where every book shall lie open to one another.
—John Donne
To 68-69 TGYC - a hearty and heartfelt SEMPER FI to ya in the great hereafter - may your family be comforted by our Lord in your passing and blessed by what you left behind.
amom:
Tonk was an institution here at FR. Please accept our fondest gratitude to you & his cherished family for all the joy with which you were able to enrich his wonderful life, and our deepest thanks for the love & strength you provided to him as he was leaving it.
And may all the warm memories of the many blessings with which he surely filled your hearts while he was here comfort you & keep you until you get to see him again!
Please accept also our prayers for you, amom, & for all those who loved Tonk, that God will guide you as gently as possible through your grief in the days ahead.
I was wondering how he was doing just this past Saturday. Prayers and my deepest condolences.
A hero proved in liberating strife. Rest in peace, Tonk.
It’s also good to hear. His suffering is over. Not that I was ready for his passing. Another good man gone. He probably doesn’t need our prayers anymore, but I’m sure his family does. I never got to meet him, but he was a distinct presence here on FR for all the time I’ve been here, including as a lurker. I’m really going to miss him. Godspeed, Tonk! Prayers up for those of us left behind. We will have to find the strength to go on until we can join him...
Rest in Peace, FRiend.
Dear FReeper friend, may you rest in peace.
Sounds like a cool dude, I am sorry for everyones loss.
Welcome Home, Brian.
What a kick in the gut this news has been this morning; Tonkin was one of FR’s great ones.
"Death is not the extinguishing of a light; it is the dimming of a lamp because dawn has come." -- TagoreWe thank you Lord for delivering to us the lamp of light and warmth that was Mr Tomkin, who helped us see and be comforted in the dark.
Now he will bask in the unimaginably glorious light and warmth of the Lord our Father,as he steps into the daylight of his first dawn.
It was a pleasure to know you... Save a seat for me. RIP...
