Brownback speaks on faith in politics, calls for defense of marriage, life

Taylors, S.C., Jun 12, 2007 / 10:44 am (CNA).- Senator Sam Brownback, who is a Republican candidate for president, called for the defense of marriage and innocent human life at the National Catholic Men’s Conference on Saturday.

Sen. Brownback, a Roman Catholic, attended the conference to talk about bringing his faith into public life.

In introducing the Kansas Republican, organizer Steve Wood criticized Catholic politicians who separate their faith lives from their public lives, reported The Associated Press.

“I don’t know about you, but this stuff by many Catholic politicians who say, ‘I’m personally opposed, but...’ But what?" Wood reportedly said. "You should have the integrity to be consistent in both the personal and public life.”

During his talk, Brownback urged married couples to stay together and to make their marriages work. He said marriage should remain between a man and a woman. Countries that have allowed same-sex marriages are engaging in bad social experiments, he added.

Brownback also said innocent life should be protected, even in cases of rape. "Rape is terrible. Rape is awful. Is it made any better by killing an innocent child? Does it solve the problem for the woman that’s been raped?" Brownback asked at the St. Joseph’s Covenant Keepers gathering.

"We need to protect innocent life. Period," he said, bringing the crowd of about 500 to its feet.

With one side of his mouth, Senator Brownback extols traditional American values with great eloquence. With the other side of his mouth, Brownback gleefully endorses “open borders” which negates what he says with the other side of his mouth. Are KS people that divergent?

Sam's a fine man, but his position on amnesty is a deal-breaker.

This fellow is right on life, on the family, on the borders, and on the war. He may not be a Catholic, but hey, nobody's perfect.

There is a bit of a gulf between the folks in manufacturing
(e.g., the former Boeing plant and other aviation groups in
Wichita) vs. the agricultural sector that is building their
business model on the explotation of illegal (pliable, non-union)
labor.

Like Dubya, it appears that Brownback is a good-hearted fellow
that has convinced himself that he will gladly take money from the
agricultural interests...and then follow a saintly path by supporting
illegal immigrants.

I like Brownback, but he's got as far off the rails as Dubya on
this issue.

Brownback is polling 2%. Rudy is polling 30+ Maybe GOP voters are more interested in policy than religion.

Religion is policy as it determines where the president will stand when the Democrats try to force their decadence on the American people.

Speaking of policy, Rudy’s proposed one barely differs from Bill Clinton’s.

Everyone believes in something, and what they believe will influence and motivate what policies they endores and promote.

Sam Brownback is a good man. It’s a shame that the values he holds are not held by the majority of Americans. I wonder what the cultural climate of America will look like in 30 years.

I’ll tell you what the cultural climate of America will look like in 30 years if Sam Brownback were to become President. It would look like Atzlan, it would be a Mexican culture, if he had his way. His position on immigration would ruin American culture (his position is the same as Bush’s). He may be a good man in other respects, but on immigration, he is not a good man, as he advocates the destruction of our country from within by massive immigration from without. Take the blinders off.
