It seems like some of the smaller, “commune” type societies have worked, sorta. Some of them were religious in nature (including a strict celibate order, which disappeared. Hm.)
Another whose name escapes me, was “burned out” in the 19th century equivalent of a Waco, TX deal. Then there is the Oneida group, the Amish and other orders, etc.

It has to have a pretty small homogeneous society. That is why it works for the most part in Sweden. Everybody has to agree on most issues with little margin of difference.
And usually/always within the context of a larger, less communal country or political system?
I can live with that....or Communist Ba$tardz, take your pick!
My take is that a large percentage of present day residents (Americans and immigrants of all stripes) haven’t a clue about our heritage, our past struggles and the enormous cost of freedom. The teachers’ unions and the MSM have succeeded beyond their wildest hopes in dumbing down the general populace to the effect that many sincerely believe that under a Hillary or an Edwards or an Obama, life as they know it would simply go on just with more socialism, higher taxes, less freedom of speech etc. They seem to take for granted that there will always be Americans willing to train, fight and sacrifice for them as if it’s a given, like deductions from their pay slip.
