Tony Snow is about to appear live on FOX & Friends on FOX News. The subject is Bush's push for immigration "reform".
I agree to a point. Why is it up to the employers to enforce the law? Yes, some do KNOWINGLY hire illegals. But it is the government’s job to enforce laws. The government is not doing its job (Boy, is that a surprise!).
Why should be believe a word they say. They have no intention of securing the border, they already cut Hunter’s fence in half. And why should we believe they will enforce new laws when they don’t enforce the laws we have now?
Oh now he’s just trying to justify amnesty.
I’m not very happy with Tony or our President anymore.
I don’t believe any of this will ever be enforced.
And it’s up to the employer to OBEY the law. It is illegal to hire an illegal alien. The employer should be turning them away instead of KNOWINGLY hiring them.
That is the part I agree with.
Snow jumps to the 2nd part which he says emphasizes border security.
He skips the first part that gives the illegals status the moment the bill is signed, which means they can’t be deported, which is de facto amnesty.
On Quinn and Rose radio show today, they were talking about all the pork place in the bill. We must kill this bill.
Maybe not, but I still don’t think this issue is going to go away. This bill is DEAD. I don’t think any of them have the faintest clue how to tackle the problem. I admit I don’t know either. But I do know that the key is fining those who employ illegals. That’s the key in my mind.
“Go after American employers that hire illegals and make it illegal to sell a home, get a mortgage or rent to illegals.”
I just saw a banner advertisement by LENDING TREE. Underneath it, in bold print, it said NO SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER NEEDED. These people aren’t ‘accidentally’ encouraging illegal immigration, they are blatantly advertising that they are doing it. Encouraging illegal immigration for financial gain is often RICO prosecutable.
Tony, I love ya, but on this we disagree my friend.
The irony is that the new bill made it tougher on employers.
We are not in a great position here. If there’s no bill, as Sister Toldjah says, we may be stuck with one in the next Congress with less Republican representation.
It doesn’t mean that we throw in the towel, but it does mean that given the appalling behavior by the right on both sides of the issue that we have to have a better way to approach the problem and talk about the issues.
The left demands grand and large programs. We know these fail because the objectives are too broad.
Find a way to make an enforceable situation.
I will say that there’s a point to be made that by dumping on businesses, the illegals get away with it. Meaning that it’s not the businesses who made the illegals come here. It’s wrong to hire illegal aliens, but some businesses have their hands tied by state laws in what they are allowed to ask and California specifies how many taxpayer name and ID changes an employee gets to get away with.
“Morning Clint. I wish Tony could FReep with us while on TV. I miss him.”
I used to respect and admire Tony Snow...no longer.
Move along. Nothing NEW to hear here.
Do you a Reader’s Digest version?
That would mean that employers become law enforcement officers. It’s not just some liquor store clerk checking ID’s but someone who must authenticate documentation of citizenship.
And he started his little spiel off with an untruth!
Tony said Reid allowed the vote to hold for Thursday because they had more amendments to look at, blah blah blah...
NO!..Reid allowed the vote because he knew....on that day....he didn't have the votes to get the bill passed.
Sorry I am to see Tony a willing mouthpiece for this hypopcrisy!
What has happened to our President....(or were we completely fooled from the git go?)
HE's pushing, fighting for this....
..but he won't fight for General Peter Pace, a fine upstanding military leader of 40 years, a man of integrity!
How does the employer necessarily know if the employer is presented with faked or stolen information?
Did you know that the state of California enacted regulations such that an employee has the right to change his or her name and taxpayer ID once per year? So follow how this goes— someone “borrows” a taxpayer name and ID. Maybe it’s the uncle or some other relative’s but there it is. Fine, the annual tax withholdings get reported and the employer gets dinged by the IRS that there’s an issue with that TIN. $50 fine and a demand that the employer has to go fix it. Employer goes back to the employee and says - hey there’s a problem here. Employees says, whoops, I made a mistake, here’s my new information. New name, new taxpayer ID and CA says that the employer has to take it.
That’s a far cry from the businesses that actively seek illegal aliens.
SaveL-well tell us how did Tony Snow do on Fox this morn?
I have been pretty disappointed in him and his snow-job on this 1348 fiasco. You appear to be highly defensive of Tony and 11348...why so?
Keep in mind that enforcement of the NEW immigration laws would be much more complicated than enforcement of the current immigration laws, and...it’s not that they can’t enforce the laws now...it’s that they CHOOSE not to. WHY? What’s been their excuse for WHY not?
What’s changed? What reason are they giving for having made the conscious decision to choose to now begin enforcing the laws? I don’t think there is one, and I don’t think they plan to.
