> Or am I just spouting ignorant non-history again?
Yup.
I don’t think so. The commies and leftists sat on their hands until Hitler attacked Russia. You are on the wrong forum — we don’t suffer communist sympathizers lightly.
> I dont think so. The commies and leftists sat on their hands until Hitler attacked Russia.
Wrong again. The Communists fought the Fascists in SPAIN, mate — before WW-II — on the side of the Loyalists. Hemingway was there: you know, the terse American author who wrote “For Whom the Bell Tolls”? You might have heard of him...
America, by way of contrast, sat on its hands until it could no longer ignore the Axis threat. This required the Japanese to give America a sharp slap across the face at Pearl Harbor. Until then, Isolationism was the preferred foreign policy. By that time, the rest of the Allies had been fighting the Axis for a very long time.
> You are on the wrong forum we dont suffer communist sympathizers lightly.
You are in the wrong forum: we don’t tolerate revisionists lightly. The Communists did a good job against the Nazis and the Fascists: in Spain, in France, in the USSR, in the former Jugoslavia. Deal with it, give credit where credit is due, and move on.
Admit it, Diehardthehunter forgot to mention that the Communists also did a good job against the fascist American forces who invaded the people’s paradises of North Korea, North Vietnam and Cuba. American Capitalist pigs! Good thing Stalin’s boys stopped Francisco Franco from turning Spain into a hellhole like North Korea or the Soviet Union, right? Oops, I forgot, General Franco kept Spain Catholic and with a free enterprise system - what a nazi swine he was, just like Pinochet. (Sarc)
Amazing to still find communist sympathizers on Free Republic after all these years - Franco and Pinochet saved their countries from communism, which is why they are hated to this day by the Comintern types.
> Amazing to still find communist sympathizers on Free Republic after all these years
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me. You can’t change historical fact by namecalling, FRiend: unless of course you subscribe to Hitler’s theory of propaganda: in a nutshell, “tell the Big Lie if you want it to be believed.”
> Admit it, Diehardthehunter forgot to mention that the Communists also did a good job against the fascist American forces who invaded the peoples paradises of North Korea, North Vietnam and Cuba.
Cuba?? You mean the Bay of Pigs fiasco, where the US Government set up and then betrayed the Cuban patriots who stormed ashore and fought valiantly and died and/or were captured, trying to knock over Castro’s regime?
The Communists didn’t even need to try to defeat the Cuban patriots: your American Government stabbed them in the back and then let them rot in Cuban gaols.
North Vietnam?? You mean that former French Colony which the American Government tried to fight by sending good men to fight and die in great big bleeding batches, while observing “Rules of Engagement” that would never allow these heroes to win? And ultimately bowed to Liberal pressure at home and hauled these heroes home, to an American populace who spat at them and called them baby-killers? And who, to this day, have never charged Jane Fonda with Treason, for aiding and abetting the enemy??
You sir are a joke, calling me a “Communist Sympathiser.”
You said above that the communists “did a good job” fighting Francisco Franco and the Nationalist forces in Spain - that is enough to tag you as a communist sympathizer around here. Francisco Franco was a saint compared to the crazy leftists supported by Stalin who tried to take over in Spain - and you call him a Fascist. He kept Spain Catholic and with a free enterprise system and friendly to the United States.
Best reconsider your sympathy for the communists - no matter their flaws, Pinochet, Mussolini, and Franco never shot clergymen and nuns, imprisoned property owners and businessmen in Gulags and stole their property, or turned Churches into brothels - unlike the communists.
> You said above that the communists did a good job fighting Francisco Franco and the Nationalist forces in Spain - that is enough to tag you as a communist sympathizer around here.
That is a magnificent non-sequitir if I have ever heard one.
Using your logic, your support for Franco should be enough to tag you a Nazi Sympathizer.
> Francisco Franco was a saint compared to the crazy leftists supported by Stalin who tried to take over in Spain - and you call him a Fascist.
That demonstrates how little you know about the subject. You see, it was FRANCO and his Nacianales crew who “tried to take over” in Spain — and unfortunately they succeeded.
And it was the supporters of the Republic, the Republicanos, who tried to put a stop to Franco’s rebellion.
Franco was a Fascist, supported by Facist Italy and Nazi Germany.
> He kept Spain Catholic and with a free enterprise system and friendly to the United States.
And allowed Hitler to test-drive his Blitzkrieg before starting World War II — often on innocent civilian populations. But Franco was a good Catholic ay, so we can forgive him that minor indiscretion./s
