ATLANTA A Georgia judge on Monday voided a 10-year sentence given to a man who was convicted while a teenager of having consensual oral sex with a 15-year-old girl.
Monroe County Superior Court Judge Thomas Wilson voided Genarlow Wilson's sentence and dropped it to misdemeanor aggravated child molestation with a 12-month sentence, plus credit for time served. Under the new ruling, he will not be required to register as a sex offender

Look, Tawana Brawly cried rape also. Girls lie. It really doesn’t matter anyway because the boy was acquitted by a jury for this charge. They believed him.It has nothing to do with the case now. The law was changed; he would not be given 10 years now. Georgia should have made it retroactive. It is a gross miscarriage of justice and if you are interested in justice rather than legalism you would agree.
You think we should put teens in jail for having consensual sex? We are not debating morality. I don’t think teens are old enough to engage in sexual relations. However, they do. I don’t want to see kid’s lives ruined because of sex.
Keep the guy in jail.
The law WAS changed. It just wasn't retroactive. This judge did the right thing.
With ignoramuses like you shouting "cruciry him", I AM afraid for the republic. The law WAS changed just after he was convicted. Unfortunately it was not retroactive. This just brings him inline with current law.
You are for giving a bunch of drunken kids more time than professional porn producers would get? Look the law was changed because everyone except the Georgia AG apparently realized this was a horrible miscarriage of justice when this boy was sentenced for 10 years. He is the reason the law was changed! The Georgia legislature wanted to make sure there were no more cases like this. The legislature should have made the bill retroactive, but they probably thought it could be handled by the courts and expected people to behave rationally- unlike our stupid AG who will probably lose the next election-what an idiot.
“The cultural leaders of the Baby Boom sought to tear down the institutions of marriage with free love.”
Just FYI, most of these cultural leaders you are talking about were not Baby Boomers themselves. They were born before the baby boom. The Baby Boomers were a bunch of kids when all that stuff took hold.
Only since the dawn of man.
Both of the girls were black.
Yes wilson was acquitted of the rape but it doesn't make it disappear. It puts into context the other action which truly was child molestation. Taking advantage of gullible 15 yr old, by all 6, and videotaping it.
Well a jury acquitted him. She got loaded and engaged in sex. They were all drunk or high or something. However, it has no bearing on the getting locked up for having sex with his girlfriend.
Nope-the 15 year old girl is white.

If you have other information that rebuts this please provide it. The DA says that all involved are black
Also please provide a link to the information that says that either of these girls was wilson's girlfriend.
If so, which I never seen reported, he's a heck of a boyfriend. Loves you so much that he sexually shares you with his friends.

Does help to do research before making baseless statements.
I’m aware of that. Kids who come from decent homes tend to care less about all that. Teenagers still fall in love and make stupid choices. Parents who are involved or who listen, really listen to their kids, are invaluable. It’s a shame that our public education system doesn’t really value parental involvement, as I’m learning more and more. And I was a teacher, still a teacher part time, and it amazes me how many teachers have such an elitist attitude when it comes to parents. Just as it amazes me that so many parents don’t listen or talk to their kids.
We definitely agree on that much and probably agree on a whole lot more.
LOL! Great scene. I remember it well. My husband (boyfriend at the time I think) was all gloating with the “I told you so” and I was like whatever :)
There was a remake, duet, of a song in the 90’s (?) - Wild Nights(?) by John Cougar Mellonball and a female. My husband hears the song and finally understands what I had been telling him since we met - women dress for other women, not men since men don’t know fashion. He always complained that I took so much time getting ready to go out but didn’t bother when we stayed in and he thought it was because I cared what guys thought when it’s always about what other women thought. I told him many times, as a teen “dressing up to just hang on the corner” (where I grew up we hung out on corners as teens)it mattered that we were in style for the other girls who saw us since the boys didn’t have a clue about fashion. Same thing many years later.
We called it even after that :)
He doesn’t have women friends, even women he works with. I still have male and female friends I’ve known since we were in diapers together, lived next door or on the same street growing up, attended weddings and funerals with as we got older, etc. They’re family.
Umm....what? You think he was acquitted and they just jailed him anyway? He was found not guilty on rape, guilty on aggravated child molestation.
Let's make it real simple: the age of consent to have sex in Georgia is 16. He was 17. He could consent to have sex. She was 15. She could not consent to have sex. She may have consented, but under Georgia law she wasn't old enough to make that decision. It's like when a 25 year old has sex with a 12 year old and says "well, he/she said yes!".
It's amazing the ignorance of some on this thread. Some are saying the girl was 17. She was not 17, she was 15. Some are saying she consented. She probably did, but that's irrelevant to what Wilson was convicted on. People need to read and know what they're talking about before posting.
“Honor student or not the guy proved he’s an idiot.”
No. Honor student or not the proved he’s a GUY
