Efficiencies in the brewing industry could help stave off dramatic price hikes domestically, since "they can brew more beer today with less barley,''
As one who appreciates a rich glass of beer and knows something about brewing (from homebrewing), the thought of more breweries brewing w/ less barley is not a good thing. You can keep your swill brewed w/ corn, rice and other adjuncts, but give me 100% barley beer any day.

I'll make an exception for using wheat for a good hefeweizen.
