To: snugs; Albion Wilde
I am not sure if McDonald’s still deep fry the apple pies or even if they still sell them but yes the deep fried ones were yummy.

I believe that in the U.S. that Popeyes is the only chain that still serves a fried apple pie.

I am curious as to where did Albion White see those croquettes in posting #86?

The best croquettes that I have ever had were in Tokyo at a meat shop called Maruya Niku-ten (the curry ones are especially good), but I haven't seen any sold in the U.S.

I got the croquettes photo from a site hosting food pictures, not from a restaurant site. I just checked around, but couldn't find it again (the original post was last summer). There's nothing like a nice warm croquette.

By the way, Snugs, the McDonald's apple pies in the U.S. are not fried, but the last time I was in London (2002) they were fried in the McDonald's on the Strand. YUM!! The baked American ones are almost 400 calories apiece, and they sell them two for a dollar, so I hesitate to think how many calories are in the UK fried version! Here's a photo of the fried ones:
