Our 19 yr. old daughter read the Dark Materials trilogy while in early high school. She was the one who told me they were very anti-Christian, but she thought they were interesting stories, nonetheless. She's looking forward to seeing the movie adaptation of The Golden Compass

I agree with what your daughter says. I took a course this spring in Young Adult Literature and had to read 20 books. I tried my best to avoid all the downer and anti-Christian books, but it was hard. We had to choose from a list of books nominated in all kinds of best books categories. I chose The Amber Spyglass from a list and then discovered that it was the third of a trilogy. I’ve read the first two and want to read the Amber Spyglass soon. They are interesting and well written. But they are sooo dark. Pullman hates CS Lewis and does everything he can to be an anti-Lewis. It depends on the child. I wouldn’t want my daughter reading them because she’s a little too interested in these dark things. They’re fine for others. I will probably see the movie too.
