I thought one had to actually commit a crime before being punished for it. If she had hurt someone, we would not be having this argument.

Home detention for those who drive on a suspended license is a more appropriate punishment. Jail seems appropriate for someone who hurts another with a car. See the difference?

What is the point behind laws against drunk driving? Hmmm? Prevention? Because drunk driving is dangerous? She was given rules and did not comply.

She was given punishment. And complied with NONE of it. It then became apparent that she was not going to comply.
