Rent all the old Police Squad Videos...the verbal & sight jokes may only be a second or two long and are packed in.

THIS COULD BE IT!!!
What, another fine example of our government at work? If you've ever been around any of the major computer systems used by the various agencies in the government, you'd wonder why this stuff doesn't happen more often. I won't say the FAA is the worst, but in the past, they've done some things in regard to their systems (upgrades, not upgrading, etc.,), that left me wondering why they don't have more problems. I'm not knocking old technology that maybe deployed - some of it is very good, but some agencies have a hodge-podge of old and new, and I wouldn't be surprised if people have gone insane trying to deal with it/manage it.
I've recently seen stuff in use, that was developed by people who probably retired 10 or 15 years ago (not necessarily bad, it's just that these older systems end up getting worked on by people who don't have the institutional knowledge that maybe they should have).

Do not buy Harris stock. The FAA is putting in new equipment and they are no longer fully testing the systems and plan, I guess, to fix the problems later. I do not know the other equipment companies but I will not fly or buy transportation stocks. Energy stuff looks good now.

The OPM (Office of Personnel management) has determined that the FAA management is “the worst of the worst”

Hmmmmm....Lemme see....
It's FRIDAY afternoon....
The weary road warrior's homeward sprint...
Early summer "towering-Cu" buildups across the Ohio valley bearing down on the eastern seaboard.... and stretching into ATL airspace....
The stock market's in the tank for the week...
YUP -- just as I thought....
Perfect timing for the ol' FAA/ATC delays that stretch well into the night...

All computers are subject to failure.

I'm not suprised. It seems like every few years you read about some project they have started to consolidate these systems or those, only to find they had problems, and so changed the parameters or dropped it or whatever.

Well, that would depend on your definition of the word "it".
I define 'it' as "FAA computer systems reported down across East Coast". And I really think this is it!
