FoxNews radio just called it “retiring”...

How the hell can this guy be allowed to retire, when active duty enlisted troops are being kept past their release dates? He should have to stay as long as everyone else. Even if in a lesser position.

Hillary Klinton knows about as much about the armed services as a road killed opossum.

This is how they play the game, and they only win if nobody tells them to STFU. It’s always “just give us one head, one resignation”. Then after a month or two, they start agitating again for another head. Leftists are agitators. It’s what they do. We lose when we give in to their tantrums.

The Bush Admin doesn't want to antagonize the Senate Dems by fighting for Pace. You see, they need to preserve that alliance as long as they think there is a chance to get the amnesty bill passed.... used to mock the cars going by me with "January 20th, 2009" bumper stickers. I don't any longer.

Agreed. Bush is "the incredible shrinking president".

Can’t speak for Conway, but you’re wrong about Mattis.

Please see post #136.
I think I must have mixed up Mattis with one of the Haditha scumbags.

You sound like a sea lawyer because you don’t know s*** about Mattis.

Yeah, you're way late.
Please see post #136 from this afternoon.

DING DING DING DING DING!!!!!!

Spot on. This current illness raging our fair forum, known as “Bush Betrayal Syndrome” (BBS), was first diagnosed at this blog:

http://biglizards.net/blog/archives/2007/05/strange_betraya.html

Here is an excerpt of his excllent column, be sure to read the whole thing because it is truly an insightful and thought provoking article.

“Nowadays, it seems that whenever President Bush says or does anything, conservatives hunt like crazy for the most disreputable, disloyal, and cowardly possible interpretation — then cling to it like a sick kitten to a warm brick, even when perfectly reasonable (and much more likely) interpretations are available.

Each excursion into spurious accusation becomes more “evidence” to buttress the next, until they build a gigantic “indictment mountain” of tapioca, which they treat like Mount Rushmore. Every absurd attack makes the next, equally absurd attack easier to hurl: Today, even a single word in a notoriously left-leaning newspaper is enough evidence to prove another Bush betrayal. Hey, where there’s smoke...

This must be a relative of the normal Bush Derangement Syndrome, or BDS, suffered by lefties; Bush Betrayal Syndrome (BBS), perhaps. It is rapidly becoming an epidemic among American conservatives...”

So besides the “Bush coward” or “Bush traitor” “explanations” (or it’s Gates bashing variant), here are a few alternative explanations.

1) Maybe the two Generals actually wanted to leave. Like FDR’s “if nominated I will serve” stance, these men didn’t want to do it anymore. If the Dems didn’t renominate FDR over and over again, he’d just go back to NY. By the end of the 2nd term (the traditional time when the President leaves the WH for good) his health took a turn for the worse and he said that he didn’t want to run again. In this vein, the Generals want out a while ago but are willing to do one more tour for the nation. Of course with the Treasoncrats pulling the strings, even if they want to serve it’s not going to happen.

2) They actually want to serve but decided the stakes are too much against them and voluntarily resigned. This is a similar situation to Sec Def Rumsfeld. The President fought tooth and nail for Rummy over and over again, even turning down his countless resignations. The 2006 debacle was too much. If Rummy didn’t resign, he’d tell Rummy to gird up his loins for the coming inquisition. But Rummy decided that it’s better for the nation for him to mosey on. Dubya accepted his resignation with a heavy heart. On the other hand, Gonzo, thus far, wants to stay, and there’s no way Dubya’s backing away from Gonzo as is seen clearly that our AG is STILL ALberto Gonzales.
In this situation, regardless of what Gates and the Generals want to do, the Generals are not going to accept for the good of the nation and Gates has no choice.

In either of this situation, the sacrifice made by the two Generals will save this nation from a kangaroo court/circus/Inquisition that will only result in the DEMon party having more influence and impact on our military and a long, unnecessary delay in competent leadership to lead the war.

And instead of wanting to punish the traitors who made this ignoble situation possible, you guys spit nails at the President because he’s not a dictator that can unilaterally reinstall the two general and cart the scumbags opposing him off to Gitmo.

Unreal.

I misread Mattis because of his involvement in the Haditha railroad job. It was Mattis who brought the charges, but he apparently only did so because he was victimized by the corrupt Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Mattis (as I have been reminded by MANY freepers) is a stand-up guy and a great Marine, and now his reputation may be tarnished by the Haditha mess. It’s a real shame.

Semper fidelis

Yes, even FoxNews made mention of the gay aspect of this “retiring”.

Democrats are such butt-boys.

Don’t know quite how to interpret this one. Perhaps Pace simply wanted out, and got his wish.

I haven’t heard anyone state the obvious- It’s The NAVY that has the carriers in the gulf for the upcoming bombing of Iran. We are not going to invade, it’s going to be bombers and cruise missiles. Why not put a NAVY guy in charge?

Trial in Communist zone with a liberal judge (or jury depending on where the sentence is derived).

Evidently, Dubya and others (like me) expected him to be the next Aldrich Ames, for justice to be served. But the Traitor party has its ways. That’s a mistake on his (and my) behalf.

The sentence was passed and our fine Constitution protected Burglar’s slimy butt from a (well-deserved) doubble jeopardy.

I think the majority of people did not expect the sentence to be so ludicrous. Of course, sometimes we forget the power of our enemies, often at our peril.

I have not problem with Mullan's becoming CJCS. But it is a bit strange why Pace is being replaced. What does Gate's mean by the "best interests of the country".
At any rate. Had to work till 11PM. Time to hit the sack. Do have a great upcoming day.

The sentence requested by Bush's Justice Department was so ludicrous that even the Democrat judge, Deborah Robinson, couldn't buy it. She bumped the $10,000 fine requested by Bush's Justice Department to $50,000. She did, however, go along with the probation and three year suspension of security clearance as requested by Bush's Justice Department.
