Hmmm, he speaks German but never bothered to learn English? - What makes you think that? I recall he and the President in the truck at The Ranch chatting, I doubt The POTUS speaks Russian.

During his tenure with the KGB, Putin was assigned to East Germany, so his command of German probably dates from that time.
