An immigration alliance with Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts is damaging Arizona Sen. John McCain and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham among conservative Republicans.
The damage to the two Republican senators caused by their support for Mr. Kennedy's immigration bill -- which was blocked by a Senate filibuster last night -- is especially clear in Mr. Graham's home state, scene of an early presidential primary next year.
"I'm very wary of a Republican who is talking to Ted Kennedy," Rick Beltram, Republican Party chairman for Spartanburg County, S.C., told The Washington Times yesterday, after it was reported that Mr. Graham and Mr. McCain had first checked with Mr. Kennedy before deciding to vote with the Massachusetts Democrat on an amendment to the Senate bill.
The Kennedy-McCain alliance was criticized by one of Mr. McCain's Republican presidential rivals, Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo.
"John McCain has always prided himself as a man who marches to the beat of a different drummer," Mr. Tancredo told The Times yesterday. "How depressing to learn that the drummer is Ted Kennedy."

Why in the hell not!
They can't find one man to run against linsey graham, or is it they don't want to find someone. If there ever was an example of the system being broken this is it.
Instead, it's the likes of John Kyl, and Presidente Jorge Boosh, who wasn't called that in my house until this bill, who are the real damaged ones.
When Bush Sr. awarded the 2003 George Bush Award for Excellence in Public Service to the fat murderer from Massachusetts he practically dry-humped him with a gushing display of obsequious love.
But then, the Bush’s always do seem to get a pass for the slavish deference they’re willing to pay to leftists and to leftist ideas.
I know I’m going to actively work aganst my Senator Mel Martinez who also is the head of the G.O.P.
I sent him an e-mail stating my disdain for his support of the amnesty deal and he sent me a request for a donation to the national party.
Screw you Mel.
This is unacceptable! SC's State GOP Convention needs to get rid of Goober and field someone else worthy of the office with strong Conservative credentials.
I want to see a bill that does one this first: secure the borders, tighten them down, no one comes in without papers. Where is this bill?
Because these officials are otioseously moderate!
Please, for the love that is all sacred and holy, remove these rinos.
Conservatives get some gonads and start fighting BIG TIME!
>>”John McCain has always prided himself as a man who marches to the beat of a different drummer,” Mr. Tancredo told The Times yesterday. “How depressing to learn that the drummer is Ted Kennedy.”
Doh! That’s gonna leave a mark.
Someone suggested sending The GOP Moderate/Rinos Peso's for donations!!
Now, that would be a great thing to do...That's how conservatives should fight back, but we have to do it in strong enough numbers!
It ain’t over folks. Fox is reporting that that the “Repubican negotiators” are pushing to bring it back in a couple of weeks.
We have work to do. We need to keep hammering away at our Senators. This fight has just begun.
They’ll be re-elected. Count on it.
It was not a filibuster. It was a failed cloture vote.
The Senate is too lazy to actually do a filibuster anymore.
The amnesty exhibit is the most flagrant abuse of public trust by the legislature in my lifetime.
The Senators displaying even the least bit squishyness on the subject have drawn indelible messy marks of disgrace upon themselves.
“Amnesty John” is toast.
Fred Thompson is going to sweep into the lead by Labor Day, and he’ll ride the “security first” train to victory next year.
Harry Reid saying it was President Bush’s fault just helped Thompson more than anything.
The reason primaries are rare is because Senate campaigns are extremely expensive and unless the party leaders bless the challenger, the challenger doesn't stand a chance. So then why do the party leaders continue to support Graham (and other RINO incumbants)? Because the relatively few people who give the most money to and/or raise the most money for the state GOP, in general, and Graham, specifically, don't want to see their investments go to waste. They have spent a hugh amount of money bribing their boy -- I mean buying access -- and if they support the challenger and lose, then they run the risk of jeapardizing the relationship with the incumbant that they have brought -- I mean nurtured -- over the years. And financially supporting the challenger means starting from scratch.
And it should make the Bush family damaged goods for the rest of time.
