“People who live on the northern border have crossed it for years, almost as if it were not there. “

Our communist democrat governor is in the process of destroying every small town and village near the Canadian border. Peaceful trade and discourse is out, totalitarian guards asking for papers is in.

The Marxist is sending one of her fascist bureaucrats into our community this afternoon to explain the joys of increasing fishing licenses 400% and hunting licenses 200%. That these northern communities rely on outdoor trade for cash is irrelevant. It should be an interesting meeting. This bureaucrat has no idea of the hornet’s nest he’s about to step into. I wonder if we’ll need to show passports.

The end of Jorge W Bush's term as POTUS can't come soon enough.

There was a time when that would raise my hackles.

That time is long past.

>>And this is the same bureaucracy that was supposed to handle 20 million z visas.

This is the same bureaucracy that sent visa renewal notices to several of the 9/11 conspirators, several months after the event.

People who live on the northern border have crossed it for years, almost as if it were not there. Economies in US and Canadian towns depend on the traffic, those idiots in Washington are going to ruin us up here. We already have enough economic problems (in Michigan) without this nonsense.

Take it easy. Everything will be back to normal once the NAU is fully in place.

“Well, I got my passport already, but I feel for those who don’t.”

I just last month receive my renewed passport - took 5 months to get it.

Argh.

and 20 millions more from families and background checks and medical screening and unique ID cards and follow up monitoring on expired z visas and processing overstayers who do not leave the country upon expiration of their z visas and and and. But they expect us to believe that this effort is a comprehensive fix? What a joke.

You would think that it's easy for me to write such as that, but in all actuality, it bothers me greatly that the man's actions have forced me into that point of view. This is something I swore would never happen again, after the last Bush's betrayals led to Bill Clinton as POTUS. I guess the apple really doesn't fall far from the tree.

I am no more happy with myself than you are with yourself.

Were that anyone of of us was clever enough to know a way to fix the system.

I live in Los Angeles and if it would improve security I’d “bother” to get whatever papers needed. However, since I am boycotting Mexico, and have no plans to go to Canada....If people want to cross the border, then they should have to get the proper paperwork. Period. Otherwise they should be blocked from going across.

The problem is that when the border is 30 miles away you tend to go on the weekend on a whim, the way many people here have been doing all their lives. Want to bring the wife and kids? then you need a whatever from wherever for each and every one of them. And now it’s suspended? So what do we need? Say your wife is a permanent resident alien that’s been in the country for ten years? Does she need to go to a consulate and apply for a new passport and then get visa? Are you going to make the drive to the border and be denied entry? Are you going to be let through to the Canadian side only to be denied reentry? Want to risk leaving your wife in Canada while you go home to find an attorney or search for papers?

And so you realize that you don’t really want to go to Canada that badly. Is that secure enough for you?

You call me arrogant, because I like security and don’t currently live on the northern border. Perhaps you should look up the word and grab a mirror. If I can’t make a statement about the northern border, then do you think you should make it about the southern border? If you had discussed the issue rather than engaging in attacks the post would mean more. But people generally are turned off by such.

Now, to the matter at hand. The issue isn’t the number coming over the northern border, but the normalization of the process with passport rules. It is imperative that we plug as many holes for the security of our country. If it is too much for Americans to get a passport, then stay at home. I’d rather be inconvenienced that vaporized. There were some of the terrorists that came through Canada. Just because the border was open in the past, doesn’t mean that it can remain so. This is a post September 11th world. Have you forgotten?

The measures that have been proposed are far from a police state. It is selfish to say that the loss of fellow Americans if far more preferable &acceptable, than having to get a passport or National ID, etc. No one is trying to restrict movement across the borders, but the argument that just because it has always been so, it should remain so, is a straw argument. We live in a new world, where the luxaries of the past no longer exist. Defeating the enemy is not a singular battlefield. What does a potential terrorist look like? They have never been exclusively Arabs. Recruitment among the non-Arabs is increasing and successful. The proof is the recent video showing non-Arabs at the terrorist graduation. The steps that are being proposed have nothing to do with political correctness, and everything to do with reason. Yes, “people like me” will support this. No, commerce will not die off, nor will people suffer, unless you think that having to show a passport and taking off your shoes is suffering, in which case, I would like to show you what true suffering is.
