Sen. Stevens Hires Lawyers in Probe

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Veteran Sen. Ted Stevens has hired lawyers and been instructed by the FBI to preserve records relevant to a burgeoning federal investigation into corruption in Alaska, The Washington Post reported Thursday.

As part of a larger probe, federal agents are investigating the remodeling of Stevens' Alaska home in 2000. The investigation is linked to the VECO Corp. bribery case that last month produced guilty pleas from two of the oil-field service company's top executives, according to law enforcement officials.

"They put me on notice to preserve some records," Stevens, 83, told the Post, declining to say what kinds of records are involved.

Stevens, the longest-serving Republican in Senate history and an iconic figure in Alaska, declined comment Thursday.

"Don't waste your time. I've said what I said in an answer to a direct question, but I'm not commenting any further," Stevens told The Associated Press.

The Maytag repairman is more likely to be busy than Hillary is to become a person of interest by the FBI.

Yet another Republican being taken down by the FBI, while they turn a blind eye on the Democrats.

Clinton did a great job rigging the agency, and Bush did zero to fix it. Now we see the payback. FBI broken. CIA broken. Justice Department broken. All of them busy undermining the administration. No wonder only Republicans get investigated and prosecuted.

There is a reason why a president needs to clean house and put reliable people in key positions.

Bush's inaction was not Clinton's fault.

Ted Stevens has an ego even bigger than Alaska’s land space if he thinks that he is indespensible to his constituants.

That’s why they call him, “Mr. Alaska.”

ABCSnooze did a hit on the Congressman-At-Large Don Young late this afternoon for directing $10mil to be spent for an interstate ramp — in Connie Mack IV’s Congressional district (at the request of a donor to Young who lived in the locale). Mack didn’t want it, and neither do the residents except for that developer. Embarrassing to say the least, and Young’s office refused to comment. I think after 34 years, Young has jumped the shark, too.

Once again you have highlighted the failures of GWB! They never cease, it seems.

Stevens probably thinks he is indispensable to AK, and I bet a lot of Alaskans think the same of their popular senior senator.
