I'm missing something ... or are we just stating this from different ends.

That's what I was saying last night in the other thread. There are only 98 voting Senators right now, although there is only 1 vacancy, so they still need 60 votes to invoke cloture. If Johnson were to resign today due to health reasons, then they would only need 59 votes to invoke cloture.
