Trying to keep peace at DNC

Posted on 06/05/2007 5:22:10 PM PDT by Mom MD

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_6054327 With thousands of demonstrators expected to descend on Denver for the 2008 Democratic National Convention, top city officials have been meeting with a protest group in hopes of minimizing the potential for conflict.

And the City Council next week will consider a proclamation prepared by the group - dubbed Re-create '68 - that restates Denver's commitment to protecting First Amendment rights during the event.

Re-create '68 says "tens of thousands" of peace and community activists hope to make Denver a pivotal political convention when the delegates come to town Aug. 25-28 next year.

Looks like protests groups are planning for fun in Denver next summer. Local radio is covering the above story, and the recreate 68 (catchy title, huh) group is already making demands on limitations of police action during the convention.

I'm so glad they are coming to my city/s

Why would the Democrats want to alienate their allies?

I think these are the folks that want to be sure the party swings far enough left during the convention. They admitted on radio interviews today that they want face time on national media for their pet issues (health care, etc)

I say we air drop in a bunch of assault weapons and ammunition so that they can keep the peace even better.

Sounds to me like Democrat operatives are going to attempt to shut down dissenting voices at their convention, just like they did at their last one in Boston.

I can’t decide if I should leave town that week or if I should make up a big batch of tofu burritos and set up shop in front of the convention center...

Ah, Geez. They're not even getting into the spirit of things. You can't "recreate '68" without some good, old-fashion cop on hippie head thumpin'!

Hey, I’d pay the price of admission to see some good, old-fashioned cop-on-code-pink-transvestite head thumpin!

“I say we air drop in a bunch of assault weapons and ammunition so that they can keep the peace even better.”

Me, I want this convention on every over-the-air, cable and satellite channel, TV and radio. I want everyone to see what the Dems are REALLY for (hint: it ain’t the troops).

"Why would the Democrats want to alienate their allies?

"Their allies" to the democrats is analogous to we strict-constructionist conservatives are to the republicans. We just express ourselves differently.

Why not? My tofu burritos would probably sell out quickly and I could make enough to finance a trip out of town. Still, it might be fun to stay and watch the freak show...

What to do? What to do? I am so confused! :)
