My Dad signed for me 35 years ago, about this time too.. Good luck, Pops!

Right now it's just talk. He's got senior year high school. But, it's all his idea. He told me if he decides on military, it's nothing but the Marines.

Now, I get to start letting go of him...damn.

Marines just made BCT harder. But it is the best training of any of the services. Make sure he has concidered ROTC and becoming an officer though.

Have you seen that U. S. Army commercial where the Mom and Dad on the farm with their son in his uniform, and they talk about how proud they are of him. Geez, I’m getting teary-eyed just thinking about it!

Whether you agree with all these men or not, you have to admire their courage in going head-to-head on a hostile stage and allowing the American public to take shots, fair and unfair, at them.

BTW, where's Fred Thompson?

You got plenty of time in that case, the letting go part .. good luck. ;-)

I dropped this one on my Dad when I graduated, I was a wee bit young. would have had to wait a few months if he hadn’t.

My son felt the same way. He joined right after his 18th birthday. He is now finishing his first deployment that took him to Afghanistan and Kuwait. He’ll be home on US soil at the end of this month. Boot camp is going to be tough, but the graduation ceremony from boot camp where he goes from a recruit to a Marine is a moving ceremony and something to look forward to.
