Urban cowboy with holstered handgun arrested
Updated: 06/02/07 11:06 AM
A Best Street man was arrested late Friday on weapons possession charges after he was spotted by police wearing a holstered handgun in plain view.
The incident happened just before midnight. Samuel Shannon, 23, was walking north on Myers Street with the revolver in a black holster on the right side of his waist, according to police, and he tried to conceal the weapon with his sweat shirt when he saw a marked police car.
When police got out of the car, Shannon tried to remove the gun from the holster and was forcibly taken to the ground and into custody, officials said.

A conceal carry permit in PA is legal in Philly and Pitt. but the local cops will still harass you.I pack my 45 when I have to travel from the endless mountains to that sewer called Philly.

I hate to sound like an idiot, but I have always wondered whether this is illegal. Depends on what state you're in. Here in North Dakota it is quite legal. Just not in Federal buildings, banks and the like.

Open carry is legal in Idaho. The Post Falls Police Department had to learn that the hard way after they repeatedly stopped an 18 year old carrying a Glock in a holster. Then his 13 year old brother got into the act carrying a .22 rifle (legally with written permission of his parents) on the street. While uncommon, it IS legal to carry openly here.

That was no urban cowboy; that was "Poncho" from Townes Van Zandt's "Poncho and Lefty":
"...Pancho was a bandit boy,
his horse was fast as polished steel
He wore his gun outside his pants
For all the honest world to feel..."

Don’t think I’d go into N.Y.C. without a cannon

Come on man, this is N.Y. after all. You should know you only hide your weapons in that state. And besides its illegal to have pistols in N.Y. so everyone knows no one has one there. I hear that in NY, the 'guvmint' knows best. And I'm willing to bet, the 'guvmint' also determines what the Constitution (either State or federal, take your pick) means.
Second Amendment? 'Go fish'...

Open carry is legal in Idaho. 'Open carry' is completely legal in other States, as well. AS IT SHOULD BE...

its legal in a lot of places to carry open. however you are just about guarunteed to get hassled by cops. If you carry it in the wrong place, you might get charged with something really stupid. like inciting a riot.
