There were plenty of tears and cheers last night as a local Marine was welcomed home from Iraq.
An entire Cave Spring neighborhood community came out to give David Mason a hero's homecoming. More than a hundred people lined the streets holding signs and waving flags.
"When you think about what's going on, what they are doing, what they are giving, what their families are giving up, this is just one little thing," says Beverly Stroud.
But there was nothing little about this gathering. A local school group showed up and neighbors decorated their homes with balloons, flags, and yellow ribbons. David Mason had no clue this was all happening until he saw the police escort down the street.
Mason spent the last seven months in Iraq, in an area about 60 miles west of Baghdad. He says he noticed a big difference during his deployment.
"I will always remember when we got there none of the kids were outside. None of them were going to school. But after we turned the city around, you saw all the kids going to school and doing things like people should be doing," says Mason.
He expects to head back to Iraq eventually. But for now he'll be relaxing and eating his favorite foods. Mason also plans to head to the beach next week and then help out on his grandfather's farm in Franklin County.
It is especially nice to know some Americans still know where their freedom is coming from. Thanks for showing the world we still care for our troops.
More good news the dems don't ever want us to hear.
I work on a program with all military guys. There are only two of us civilians in the office. The amount of packages and cards and magazines, etc. that come in with every mail call from perfect strangers, university groups, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops and classrooms from all over the U.S. is awe-inspiring.
All of the walls in the buildings on our FOB are decorated with cards and pictures made by schoolkids of all ages.
The troops are aware of the support and appreciation they have back home and I don't care what the media says....troop morale is high. And nobody seems to be in favor of any cut-and-run crap. In fact, they get annoyed hearing those idiots in Congress yap about that.
Every single Marine and Sailor I talked to on my 7 day Tiger Cruise was 100% for kicking teerorist butt. Don’t let the media catch wind of that one.
this was my first posted article, been on FR for years.
I live in Roanoke where this is a local story, the story posted was from the local TV channel, this evening, I found the story in the local paper, front page, but the editors choose to omit the Marines re-counting of the turnaround in his area of Iraq. the paper is the Roanoke Times, typical left leaning rag. We got a free subscription because they cant get people to pay for it
BTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WONDERFUL!!
It is wonderful to know our small offerings of support are appreciated by our brave men and women.
Thank you for sharing this information.
