PORTSMOUTH, Va., June 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Two state gun violence prevention groups and two national organizations joined today to urge Hampton Roads voters in the 79th District to vote for Henry Light over incumbent Johnny Joannou in the Democratic Primary for Delegate on Tuesday, June 12.
"For many, many years, the gun industry has ruled the roost in Richmond," said Jim Sollo of Virginians for Public Safety. "Next year is a critical year for Virginians to take a new, common sense approach to gun laws. Delegate Joannou will dedicate himself to protecting the status quo while Henry Light will be an agent of change."
"We need a fighter in Richmond, someone who will help ensure that dangerous people can't buy guns at gun shows without background checks, and that our state government does everything it can to ensure that only safe and law-abiding citizens can pass a background check to buy a gun," said Lorraine Price, President of the Million Mom March chapter in Hampton Roads. "We need to send a Navy SEAL to fight this battle -- and that's Henry."
"Del. Joannou and I differ greatly on this issue and the choice could not be clearer," said Henry Light. "I will work to keep guns out of the hands of those who should not have them and away from places where they should not be."
"Next year's General Assembly needs to take a rational approach to gun safety," said Josh Horwitz, Executive Director of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. "It is imperative that Henry Light replace Johnny Joannou in the House of Delegates if Virginia is to make progress."
"What we're doing is not working," said Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. "We cannot afford to wait any longer to find solutions to the escalating problem of gun violence. We need new leaders like Henry Light, who will take a fresh approach."
Mr. Light announced on May 1 that he would support and fight for a bill closing the gun show loophole in Virginia, which allows unlicensed private sellers of firearms to sell them without background checks. And he praised Governor Kaine's actions to expand the records Virginia is sending into the National Instant Check System (NICS).

There’s nothing ‘common sense’ about gun control laws.
Plus, I don’t think any Navy SEAL would be for gun control.
Bob Kerry was for gun control..still is

Unfortunately, former Senator (and ex-SEAL) Bob Kerrey was in favor of it when he last ran for POTUS. He did a TV ad stating that the American public should not own a “fine weapon” like the AK47 that he encountered in Vietnam.
The net outcome of this kind of thinking is very, very simple: Criminals have guns because they don’t give a rip about laws, and law-abiding people will be defenseless(no weapons).
When a bad guy busts into your house in the middle of the night, and even if you are lucky enough to get a call off to “911,” who’s gonna get ot your room first? The scumbag or the cops?
These people are crazy.
He's got that right, every time they pass a new law it doesn't stop the violence.
I want to own a ‘fine weapon’ like the Barret .50cal BMG sniper rifle. He should stuff that up his butt!
They're not crazy, they know exactly what they are doing. They are EVIL.

Henry makes some pretty nice rifles in, of all places, Brooklyn; however, while they come in a variety of calibers, I don’t recall one in anything known as Henry light.
