A security company issued a warning about a new spam campaign that sends out e-mails purporting to be about a complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau.

The spoofed e-mail, which appears to be from the bureau, contains a Microsoft Word attachment. While the e-mail claims the attachment holds more information about the complaint, it actually a Trojan downloader that tries to install a keylogger, which then tries to steal information and send it to an IP address in Malaysia...(snip)

The IT folks at the tech company I work for sent this to us as an urgent email to all of us this morning.

Several employees already reported getting one of these emails.

My company doesn't send out warnings like this unless they have already determined and verified that it is a legitimate threat.

Heads up.

Another idea... don't let them get your email address in the first place. Use something like stingbox.com which lets you use a temporary email address rather than your own when signing up for stuff online. They can't solicit/scam you if they don't have your real email address to begin with!

This one's been around for years. Also got one from the IRS recently, which I didn't even bother to open (the IRS NEVER corresponds by email, per their web site).

It's gotten to the point where I only open emails from people I know or online shopping sites I've done business on. Everything else goes into the trash.
