Then arrest them, and deport them whether they are illegal or not. Americans as well. Drop them off in Mexico City and say, “These guys apparently want to live by YOUR rules.”

So you want to strip legal Mexican immigrants of their citizenship now?

That depends on whose side they’re on. This is a major cultural invasion, as well.

Some of my best friends are bigots and I, for one, am getting darned tired of the all the bigot-bashing going on.

Sadly his views on this illegal invasion seem to have permeated even the GOP, from the top down

I think that Greeley's reverting to calling someone a bigot because they are against the program, is a strong indicator that arguments in support of the program cannot stand on their own merits.

Calling people names, especially with no justification, is a bad way to win friends and influence people.

None of these prove your point or disprove that you lied. FR might have a very, very few bigots, after all you are one, your statements about "white" conservatives and catholics proves that. However, the VAST majority of Americans and FReepers are not racist for wanting illegal, law breaking asshats to pay for their crimes. They are all felons because they have fake ID, which is a felony. The ones with jobs have committed fraud which is also a felony.

They are sucking up resources which they don't pay for and they are an economic diaster, PLUS they are simply, and completely, breaking the law.

This doesn't even cover the terrorist who come screming across our borders and the gang bangers, the drunk drivers and the flat out murderers.

To claim that people who want to enforce our laws are racists speaks of a mind so twisted that it is beyond discription, that is if the person actually believes it and isn't just using that ploy for political purposes.

I oppose S1348 and any other amnesty bill that happens to come along, if you think I am racist because of it, that is your problem.

Speak for yourself Chezwick... My sister is Half-Mexican, and I lived in a predominantly Mexican neighborhood in West Denver for 2 1/2 years. Perhaps our Congresspeople should spend a little time doing the same thing. Not even my LEGAL MEXICAN friends want these criminals to be given amnesty.

This is not about racism or bigotry and those who keep saying it is are guilty of perpetuating that lie. You and I both know that this bill is amnesty, and that Bush and our Congresspeople are lying through their teeth when they say it is not amnesty, nor does it put anyone on a fast track to getting a green card!!!

TAKE YOUR TRAITOROUS CRAP AND SELL IT ELSEWHERE CHEZWICK! OH, AND TELL YOUR BOSSES IN THE WH THAT WE REAL PATRIOTIC AMERICANS ARE INTELLIGENT PEOPLE WHO WILL NOT HAVE THE WOOL PULLED OVER OUR EYES AGAIN!!!! THEY IGNORE THE CONSTITUTION AND CITIZEN'S RIGHTS AND WISHES AT THEIR OWN PERIL. THEY WORK FOR US -- NOT THE CRIMINALS THEY ARE PANDERING TO!!!

He was referring to anyone who riots with the illegals should it ever come to that. Purely hypothetical! Then you baited him with “So you want to strip legal Mexican immigrants of their citizenship now?”

My FRiend, you’re time will be short on this forum if you keep using Liberal race-baiting tactics and posting articles that inflame this issue.

It’s possible to be hard-line anti-illegal immigration and support the construction of a border wall and the recruitment of a real border patrol and also not a bigoted jerk.

Unfortunately, some people have missed that memo.

Quite a few of them skulk around here and think they are being subtle about the fact they hate anyone who isn’t lily white and can trace their ancestry back to some 17th century city or hamlet in Western Europe.

They are trying to use a real and important issue, protecting the border, as a wedge to gain access to our hueg membership base. Unfortunately the strong emotions connected with these issues, especially for people in the southwest that the government has been crapping on for so long, allow them to blend in without being swiftly zotted from the face of the earth as they were in times past.

I pray that cooler heads prevail and that hateful nutjobs don’t manage to do what the mainstream media, the Clintons, and left-wing extremists have thus far failed to do: ruin Free Republic as a powerful voice for Conservatism.

JMHO, FWIW, 2 cents, etc.

Such hateful rhetoric will also drive Hispanic voters into the Democrat’s camp permanently.

It’s good to see another poster that is of Mexican ancestry here. I was starting to feel a little out of place

I am not of Mexican (or hispanic) ancestry. I think the borders are a mess and I think the US has to get control of them, probably by a combination of expanded immigration, border fence, and permanent expulsion of undesireables (which does NOT include every illegal). These, plus some program to bring people already here into legal status (including taxes and fines) would alleviate the pressure and some of the bitterness you see from people who are just fed up.

That said, the attitudes of many Freepers here is just revolting. Just as it was possible to "hide behind" the issue of states rights to avoid the evil of institutionalized Jim Crow laws, it is possible and it is an indisputable fact that there are many Freepers whose attitudes are hateful, bigoted, prejudiced blah blah blah. What is more, the worst ones will deny it and claim they are just advocates of keeping the law, or accuse you of being a closet lib or worse.

It got amusing, having freepers accuse me of exploting illegals for money (having a business that caters to them, I guess), being Latino, having illegal parents, being some social worker or bleeding heart lib, or any number of things. All because I insist that we treat these people with RESPECT and even COMPASSION even as we demand that the law be upheld (it is possible to do both!). I finally "came out" and let FR know why I find the attitudes here disgusting and revolting. The link is HERE

. I really like FR, having been either here or lurking for years, but it is also home to some extremely bitter, hateful, spiteful, shriveled up moralist jerks. The immigration threads here used to be worse. I don't know whether JimRob expelled them, or threatened them or they just settled down, but you used to find people advocating killing illegals on site, mining the border, booby trapping the border, nuking Northern Mexico, laughing when peoples' legs were cut off by trains, and all sorts of stuff that made me both sad and angry, when I thought of the men whom I personally know.

I know there is a great deal of frustration, but even so, I agree that some of the stuff that comes out of these threads is just plain out of line.

I agree Constantine. I think you are astute in your observations. I also think that a few of these people (who spew racist stuff) are attempting to sabotage us (not only on this issue) by making these comments.

I agree with Martin Luther King, Jr. on this subject when he made that famous speech: “I have a dream that people will be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin”.

Illegal immigrants, of every race and nationality who commit ID Theft/Fraud, and tax evasion (among other crimes), I find seriously lacking when judged on the content of their character.

One cannot produce equality by using preferential treatment.

Another thing I find interesting is that this bill itself seems to make the assumption that all illegal immigrants are from Mexico (i.e. the touchback provisions, etc...). What about the illegal immigrants from other places around the globe? How does this bill deal with them?

Hi Dreams,

I undestand your wanting to treat people with respect and compassion. And, as the sister of someone who is “half-Mexican” I appreciate it — as many LEGAL latinos suffer because of the association with their illegal counterparts.

I honestly have a hard time understanding where people who have disobeyed our laws (like ID Theft & Fraud) should receive preferential treatment over citizens who commit these same crimes.

A person can’t be taught to respect the laws if they are not made to accept the consequences for disobeying said laws. I don’t understand how we are being compassionate and respectful by allowing these people to break the law and then ignoring it, or allowing the to receive less punishment than a citizen would receive.

If I, as a parent, employed this idea when raising my children they would have no respect for any kind of authority whatsoever, and they would definitely not be good citizens, or contributors to our community.

This is not a matter akin to Civil Disobedience, either. Everyone who makes the choice of committing an act of Civil Disobedience is fully prepared to ‘suffer the consequences’ for violating those laws they are protesting.

You know... Assuming that every person who comes from Mexico is “God-Fearing”, or willing to join our military in times of war, and that every liberal in this world is anti-Christian are quite a blanket statements — especially coming from someone who accuses people of being racists and bigots.

You have obviously never read any of my posts on this subject. This amnesty bill does nothing to fight against racism and prejudice. In fact, just like affirmative action it will have the opposite effect upon the people those of us who fight against racism are trying to educate. YOU CANNOT CREATE EQUALITY BY GRANTING PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT!

The ironic thing is you are supporting this article filled with hatemongering, bigotry, prejudice and racism by falling into the same trap youself by putting forward the assertion that what you call ‘nominal conservatives’ consider anyone different from them to be sub-human.

I do not defend ANY racist, or bigot no matter what their preferred prejudice. And all the wishful thinking, and accusations you put forward are not going to make this AMNESTY bill any better, nor does it help fight against the prejudice, bigotry and racism that you claim to be against.

Indeed it seems that you are somewhat prejudice yourself based upon the post I am replying to as you fall into the trap of thinking that anyone who attends Church on Sunday is any ‘better’, more law-abiding, a harder worker, better community member, or a better citizen than others who perhaps do not? Have you ever heard the term “Sunday Catholic”? (Oh, and I’m a confirmed Catholic so I think I can use that term — after all it was mentioned quite frequently by our Pastor when I was growing up... and I don’t think he was ‘anti-Catholic’.)

Oh, and just in case you want to go here; My sister is Half-Mexican, so you can stop saying that all of us who oppose this bill are anti-Mexican whether they are here legally or not...

To: CharlesWayneCT

By racy I’m assuming you mean sluty. : )

The hispanic culture in general is geared toward the man, el jefe. Please the man and all will go well. Men rule the roost. Thats not all bad but they have little respect for women. And the stupid women put up with it.

P.S. If this should offend anyone, I know of what I speak. I lived for many years in the midst of the hispanic culture.
