>>>>The current issue of National Geographic has an interesting article on the rapid growth of business and housing in China. It gives a lot of insight into how things really are over there. Factories spring up overnight in abandoned warehouses, they poach experienced workers away from competing factories for pennies more.

And for those of you that don’t have a National Geographic handy.....

The greed of capitalism, untempered by the great commandment, is an awful thing to behold. A facist nation that rejects the value of the ten commandments can use the engine of capitalism to enslave the world far more effectively than can a communist one.

There is a long chain of culpability, beginning with highly educated doctors, scientists, "technicians", corporate heads, financiers, and so forth, long before the end-of-the-chain workers.

Agreed

Why no vitriol directed at them ?

They aren't the ones trying to trash American's doing business with the Chinese. Believe me when I tell you that I have no love in my heart for those that butcher babies and just because one has an education it doesn't make them human. This thread is about allegations being used by the liberal press (I don't care which country the media outlet resides in) to further labor union's anti-Chinese, anti-Corporate management agenda. This article is just another in a long litany of reports against American businesses (like Wal-Mart for example) that in my opinion Unions hate.

I'm reading between the lines.

I disagree with your assessment. It's really more simple than that - the Chinese are greedy, unethical and are selling defective, poisonous products. IMHO, this has very little to do with "unions". Dead bodies in Panama due to injested Chinese toothpaste is not about "unions". That being said, the Chinese have opened themselves up to any vulture wanting to take advantage of their vulnerable position in the marketplace after the recent fiascos. I say, let the feeding frenzy begin.

I'm a consumer and I have to return two Chinese made products just this week as they are grossly defective.

What other horrors exist?

A hideously long list, including but not limited to raising St. Bernards for food and other dogs and cats for fur. They don't even bother to kill them, just skin them alive to save time.

In the strange bedfellows department, looks like PETA is becoming our friend. Wonder how much they've researched other Chinese "farming" practices, like butchering sick hogs and cattle.

I look askance at every meat item in Wal-Mart (no thanks to all of it) and now at other markets as well. If it isn't butchered on the spot from whole carcasses, I don't want it. And come to think of it, those carcasses might be frozen in China too.

Some expert interviewed on radio said that all burger you find in your supermarket comes pre-ground from huge suppliers. Your local market might regrind it finer and package it under it's own label, dating it that day. The only way to get safe burger is to purchase a piece of steak and have the butcher grind it in front of you--or grind it at home yourself. I have an old Vita-Mix that will grind pieces of steak into burger but I'm sure there are better appliances for the job.

The beauty of living in the United States is you have the right to disagree and you also have the option to pay for Union made products at ten times their real value or you can take a chance on Chinese products. In most cases Americans are choosing Chinese made products which is why stores like Wal-Mart and all the 99¢ stores are doing such a booming business. In addition I can't tell you how many times I've had to return American products because they too proved to be defective. The only reason we are hearing about how bad Chinese products are is because the Unions can no longer get away with screwing the American public. Their memberships are in the tank and the liberal press is forwarding their slander of foreign, and in particular, Chinese products. The Demoncrap's main benefactors have been traditionally the American Unions.

You figure it out.

You figure it out.

I already have - I think you’re overreaching.

Crap is crap, I don’t care who makes it, and the Chinese not taking responsibility for defective products that have killed people and animals is beyond criminal and patently absurd. How you can defend what’s occurred (sounds like that’s what you’re doing) is bizarre.
