The total number is huge, of course, because we are a huge country. But the murder rate, a more revealing statistic, is relatively modest at 5.35 murders per 100,000.
Singapore for example had a rate in the late 90’s of 4.3 per 100,000. Amsterdam, in the Netherlands checks in at 7.7 per 100,000.

Bit of an unfair stat.

Wouldn’t it be better comparing Amsterdam to a similar sized city in the US, or doing a US / Netherlands comparison
