My take on this is that when he signed up he agreed to be in solidarity with his fellow Marines, and he knew perfectly well that he was breaking that agreement when he "performed" as he did.

Of course holding that the rules of the Marine Corps are important violates the prime directive of journalism. Which is that nothing is more important than journalism, at any time.

"Iraq Vet Faces Penalty for War Protest"

Penalty? What sort of "penalty"? With freedom of speech comes responsibility which Kokesh was glaringly deficient in along with a total disrespect for his former "Band of Brothers". Heaven help Kokesh should he ever run into any of them.

Armchair warriors?? There’s plenty of REAL warriors here. They will be outraged and rightly so.

It sounds like there's disagreement among the real warriors, notably from the VFW.

"“We all know that people give up some individual rights when they join the military,” said Kurpius, a Vietnam veteran from Anchorage, Alaska, “but these Marines went to war, did their duty, and were honorably discharged from the active roles. I may disagree with their message, but I will always defend their right to say it,” he said.

“Trying to hush up and punish fellow Americans for exercising the same democratic right we’re trying to instill in Iraq is not what we’re all about,” he said. “Someone in the Marine Corps needs to exercise a little common sense and put an end to this matter before it turns into a circus.”

Reduction of his Honorable Discharge from Active Duty to Less Than Honorable, loss of VA benefits, having to reimburse the VA for those he’s already recived (Education $), blocking of his ever being able to get a civilian job where a security clearnce for the permance of the job from the federal government is required; just to name a few.

He deserves to be neutered.

Nevertheless, there is a technicality. If his action occurred subsequent to the period of service for which the HD was awarded, the HD has to stand.

With a “Less Than Honorable” discharge, this guy will have a tough time getting a job at McDonalds or Wendys. Any company that does any type of business with the Federal Govt., no matter how big or small that business is, won’t hire him.

He has not been fully discharged at this time, but only from active duty. He will require discharge from the IRR yet.

Unfortunately no, as an IRR it can be changed for willful misconduct.

I am uncertain as to whether I understand your statement.

Can you expand upon it?
