Dear tarheelswamprat,

You are free to believe as you will. I don’t like the immigration bill, but I will tell you that if it were 2000 again and I knew what would happen but couldn’t change or prevent anything, I would still vote for George W. Bush in 2000 and again in 2004.

I knew he was to the left of me. Virtually all R candidates are and forever will be. I can’t imagine someone actually doing away with cabinets and departments, can you?

But he has less compulsion or motivation to lie than any other President or candidate of which I am aware.

You don’t like where we are, I don’t either, but I disagree that I was misled. In reading your post, I see how angry you are, but I don’t find how you were misled.

I knew what he meant when he said he was a compassionate conservative, but he made the case for himself on taxes and affirmative action and later still on the War.

The coalition that Reagan put together is much more diverse than many realize.

I voted for President Bush, twice. In the exact same circumstances (against Gore or Kerry), I would vote for him again. That is irrelevant to the point I made about the difference between an elected official's personal beliefs and his obligations to uphold the law.

My post was not written in anger. It is a cold, detached analysis of what was actually said versus what has actually been done.

Let me repeat: we were not misled by President Bush's statements of his beliefs or desires - we were misled by his promises to obey and uphold the law. If you are unable to grasp the distinction, then I must simply wish you well.
