It was a great read, I am just saying that there were some parts that were terrible stories, but all told well

Additionally both sides have already proven that no matter what the congress and president sign in to law they may still screw us like they are doing with the border fence that was signed into Law but can't quite seem to get built.

Oh I agree completely. I cannot for life of me figure out what the DC Establishment thinks it is accomplishing here. This was a really stupid move politically. The only thing I can hope is the Republican candidate in 2008 can capitalize on this issue.

See, this issue doesn't just split the Republicans. The blue collar base of the Democrat party are not going to be over joyed with the prospect of welcoming millions of immigrants into their urban strongholds. So you have the prospect of Immigration being as much a wedge issue for Democrats as Republicans.

However, I cannot be grateful for a President who is stubborn as heck on Iraq then be angry cause he is stubborn as heck on Immigration. Just like any President, you take the good with the bad.

I am sitting this one out. I can understand and agree with the security issue or the cost issue or the small govt issue involved here but too much of this argument is pure nativist rantings. When the Right goes down that road they lose me.

There is utterly no evidence that Hispanic Immigrants will do any such thing. Anymore then the Germans, the Jews, the Irish, the Blacks, the Chinese, the Japanese et al did. So if you want to argue this issue, I suggest you all stick to the economic or small Govt argument and leave the rest out of it. But when you start arguing that the Hispanics are the “Wrong sort of Immigrants”, you lose.

Read the The Hispanic Challenge By Samuel P. Huntington and then let's discuss this issue on the facts and not emotion. Name calling doesn't change the the very real differences between Irish immigration into America and the current sustained Hispanic migration that threatens to change the very nature of this Republic. The numbers alone should give anyone pause. To dismiss what is happening with the tired bromide that those of us who understand what is happens are "pure nativist rantings" demonstrates to me that you have no grasp of the facts or the historical context.

Every immigrant group has it share of problem children. But we have gangs and thugs that are native born Americans too. Most of the Hispanics I meet, or served with in the US Military, are descent hard working respectable people. So if you all want to win this argument, I suggest you leave the more emotional, over blown rhetoric behind and concentrate on making a calm rational factual argument.

LOL. Using emotion and anecdotal evidence indicate that you are not using factual arguments. Let's try to stick to the facts. This has nothing to do with whether Hispanics are hard working decent people or not. It has to do with the ability of this country to assimilate these huge, unprecedented numbers of immigrants, legal and illegal, who are coming more and more from Latin America, and whether they have the skills and talents necessary to aid our economy or become a drain on our welfare state and form a permanent underclass.

Watching the Senate debate on the bill. Teddy Kennedy described those who are against it as “know nothings.” So you two are on the same page.

Ok here goes my Freshman effort at judging the Sunday Morning Thread. This thread week in and week out proves we have some of the smartest people on the internet posting here. I apologize for the lack of HTML in the post numbers that made up each person’s finish...but I lack the proper skillset to do that.

Without further delay...as Kasey Kasem would say “let’s get back to the countdown...”

10th Place - anita post #71

9th Place - mathluv post #78, 143

8th Place - Bahbah post #77, 428

7th Place - Mo1 post #258, 269, 297, 467

6th Place - SaveLiberty post #7, 8, 9, 11, 18

5th Place - snugs post #67, 81, 106, 127, 159, 340

4th Place - rodguy911 post #41, 111, 114, 152, 197, 238, 335, 358

3 through 1 will be up in a little bit.

Let the debate begin :)

Spot on, my friend. Except I must say what I do every Sunday is just babble away under my breath like I used to do all alone until I found Alas Babylon! and his thread and he saved my sanity.

That is one of the really great things about the 'Net. I use to just rage at the wacko voices coming out of the radio or TV. Now I hear something, and most times I think, "hmm cannot wait to get home and post about this". Sure as done wonders for my blood pressure.
