Why Fred Thompson?
The Drudge Report ^ | 5-31-07 | Robert Novak

Posted on 06/02/2007 12:18:44 PM PDT by Paperdoll

Fred Thompson sat at the end of a long table in The Monocle restaurant on Capitol Hill Tuesday night for dinner with some 20 fellow conservatives, mostly journalists. He sent two signals. First, he sounded like a man who has decided to run for president. Second, his candidacy will be something different from other Republicans, in both substance and style.

FTD's new kind of campaign apparently will cost less money, not require much of a campaign. Rather he will continue to depend on free TV time given lavishly by the MSM, and word of mouth by his adoring Law and Order fans. Style and substance? Appearance and acting ability - stately yet folksy - is all it will take to charm the jaybirds out of their trees on primary day.

I think there are a lot of people who think that he is the only true conservative, or conservatarian, who can win.

Short answer: 'He looks presidential'

I saw a stat that 70% of his big screen time has been as the POTUS.

So who will idiots that don't follow politics pick? Why?

Besides he has 'Executive style hair'!

He is to the left of Duncan Hunter by a good ten points, and far behind him in his government service.

I am still waiting to hear, without any success, his qualifications. You cart his record out and his fans say you are trashing him! I fear his fans have built him into a straw man, based on his acting image. If I must vote for the man in the general, I want to know why.

Duncan Hunter gets my primary vote because with Duncan Hunter, what you see is what you get, and you really get your money’s worth with him. Duncan Hunter. A true conservative. A real patriot. A warrior for the best interests of the country and its people.

WOW! Thanks. I don’t know why. Try archives 5/31/07. Sorry, I don’t know how that happened.

You should probably do a little more research before you start coming to such hasty conclusions.

I saw a stat that 70% of his big screen time has been as the POTUS.

Well, you saw a stat that was laughably wrong. Can you tell us where or produce a link to this stat so we can share a good belly laugh? So who will idiots that don't follow politics pick?

The Democrat. Just like they always do.

Besides he has 'Executive style hair'!

Yeah, that must be it. You have an amazing grasp of the electorate. /s

Unfortunately we live in a celebrity mindset. Honor, results don’t count for much. If it did Duncan Hunter would be in first place.

BS.

You really ought to change screen names occasionally if you are going to claim ignorance. Ask yourself why Hunter can't rise above 2 percent. Gaining exposure is his campaign's responsibility, not the MSM, talk radio, or anybody else. The fact that he cannot gain traction in a campaign may be indicative of his effectiveness if he were to win the primary or more. Where is your candidates fire?

Hunter would be better served if his supporters weren't shown to be disingenuous and petty.

Duncan Hunter has my vote....the only serious candidate in the debates. Still haven’t given Fred much thought because he’s not officially in the race yet, but given his record side-by-side and looking for someone who is good on ALL the issues, I don’t see how anyone who calls themselves CONSERVATIVE could support a candidate other than Duncan Hunter. Not trying to trash the Fred fans....Duncan Hunter is the right man for the times we live.

The same can be said, Mensius, for Thompson supporters who stoop to name calling and being vitriolic rather than proudly presenting their case.
