Britain 'isolated' over new treaty for Europe
The Telegraph ^ | 6/2/2007 | Bruno Waterfield in Brussels

The Prime Minister will be told by Angela Merkel tomorrow that he faces isolation and a bruising battle over British opposition to new powers for the European Union.

Angela Merkel will warn Tony

At a pre-G8 meeting in Berlin, the German chancellor will warn Mr Blair that he will be under siege if he tries to defend Britain's sovereignty at a meeting on June 21 in Brussels - where details of a treaty will be thrashed out to replace the constitution that was rejected by French and Dutch voters two years ago.

Support for the Prime Minister is melting away as key allies such as French president Nicolas Sarkozy rally behind proposals to beef up EU powers ahead of the summit, which is Mr Blair's last top-level engagement before he hands over power to Gordon Brown on June 27.

William Hague, the shadow foreign secretary, has attacked the shuttle diplomacy of recent weeks.

"We are in the bizarre position that Merkel and Sarkozy seem to know more about the British Government's policy on Europe than the British public," he said.

"Tony Blair meets Merkel this weekend in a position of completely unnecessary weakness. No Prime Minister can properly represent his country in important negotiations when he has less than a month to go in office."

Mr Sarkozy will gang up with Miss Merkel and the Dutch prime minister, Jan Peter Balkenende to demand that proposals for cuts to national vetoes remain a feature of a new treaty. The leaders of France and Spain have also lent their support.

Like Mr Blair, the French and Dutch leaders wish to avoid referendums. However, the issue of more EU qualified majority voting does not have the same totemic significance for them, or their voters, as it does for Britain.

The German leader will use the summit to fix a basic outline for a new EU treaty and is hoping to commit Mr Blair to firm promises on which Mr Brown will find it difficult to backtrack later.

Five months of secrecy will end at a "sandwich supper" of foreign ministers in Luxembourg on June 17.

Margaret Beckett, the Foreign Secretary, will hear for the first time Berlin's plan for an EU blueprint and timetable for a replacement of the constitution.

It never ceases to amaze me that people (Including Bush) would joyfully give away their own country and people over to some supra-national entity while at the same time allowing their culture to be destroyed by unchecked “immigration” by Third World Hordes. It’s incredible and it’s happening before our eyes.

Five year phase-in plan for “EuroEnglish”

The European Commission have just announced an agreement whereby
English will be the official language of the EU, rather than German, which
was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty’s
government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and
has accepted a five year phase in plan that would be known as “EuroEnglish”.

In the first year, “s” will replace the soft “c”. Sertainly, this will
make the sivil servants jump for joy. The hard “c” will be dropped in favour
of the “k”. This should klear up konfusion and keyboards kan have 1 less
letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the
troublesome “ph” will be replaced with the “f”. This will make words like
“fotograf” 20% shorter.

In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be
expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.
Governments will enkorage the removal of double letters, which have always
ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of
the silent “e”s in the language is disgraseful, and they should go away.

By the 4th year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing “th”
with “z” and “w” with “v”.

During ze fifz year, ze unesesary “o” kan be dropd from vords
kontaining “ou” and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer
kombinations of leters. After zis fifz year, ve vil hav a realy sensibl
riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubls or difikultis and evrivun vil find it
ezi to understand each ozer

ZE DREAM VIL FINALI KUM TRU!

Germany is using the European Union to do what it could not do in two world wars, conquer Europe.

As in those two wars, Britain is resisting German efforts.

Third World Hordes? That kind of makes them sound like some sort of barbarian race, which is wide of the mark friend.

Such grand statements make for emotive reading, and garners allies, but flimsy on fact and high on hyperbole.

Incorrect. That some conspiracy theory to imagine that Germany is using the EU to ‘control’ Europe, in an effort to rectify the mistakes from Wars fought over 60 years ago.

Tell me something wrong with Supra-Nationalism, and then remember you must apply it to plain old nationalism as well. The ‘supra’, merely means a larger group of people.

Like Mr Blair, the French and Dutch leaders wish to avoid referendums.

Giving the people a vote in these things is so . . . inconvenient.
