We can all imagine a quick fix for the immigration problems, but the God-given principles under which we live extend beyond our borders and thereby invite greater participation. Those who do not understand and appreciate the freedoms we enjoy as a pluralistic society - who seek to destroy us - ought not be given harbor here. There are too many here already. But I do not expect any President to solve this issue on his own.

Bush has made mistakes but also has had successes.

As far as immigration, let’s enfocre the law and support LEGAL immigration and stop this amnesty nonsense.

As far as the war, I agree we needed to liberate IRAQ, I don’t aggree that we needed to do it in such a PC fashion.

I can proudly say that although I voted for Bush in the general election, he was not my first choice in the primary.

I am very disappointed in Bush. The word conservative is a far cry from describing his presidency.

Vote conservative.....all the time, every time.

I for 1 love President Bush!!!!

He is a Christian man of God and his heart is in the right place. I love him!!!!

He gave us Alito and Roberts. Yes he was going to also give us Harriet Myers, but Harriet told him she would over turn Roe if given the chance. She also told him she would be right on all the issues...faith,prayer,homosexual agenda etc.

President Bush at the time did not think he could get Alito through...or Roberts ???

Conservative talk radio (that I listen to) cost us the house and senate in Nov. You people cheered on by Mark and Laura and Shawn etc (whom I also listen 2) decided immigration had to be solved today, everything else was secondary.

As a result, one at a time the base started turning on the President. Many said they would teach a lesson to the Republicans, not voting even voting democrat.

Well here we are and you are all turning on our great President even again. You don't seem to care that we are at war and the troops are in harms way.The democrats are loving every minute of it,the terrorists over seas are eating it all up,the Presidents poll numbers are going lower and lower. The terrorists are believing that this is good for there side, they are encouraged and keep strapping on the bombs.

We have a great President, you guys/most of you it seems are starting to sound like the moveon gang.

BTW Peggy Noonan is a tramp, she turned on the president years ago.

I bet the same people that turned on President Bush will turn on perhaps....President Fred Thompson at some point???

PRESIDENT BUSH MAY GET ANOTHER APPOINTMENT TO THE HIGH COURT.....who's fault will that be when we find we don't have the votes??? I and you know who`s fault it will be and it wont be the Presidents fault.

I for one am sticking with President Bush until the end...God Bless President Bush...perhaps the greatest President of all time

You don't like endless gushing spending, the kind that assumes a high and unstoppable affluence will always exist, and the tax receipts will always flow in? Too bad! You don't like expanding governmental authority and power? Too bad. You think the war was wrong or is wrong? Too bad.

But on immigration it has changed from "Too bad" to "You're bad."

BINGO

Peggy acts astounded that Bush finally alienated the base.

What amazed me is that they stuck with him this long. He has been derelict of duty, presiding over the largest domestic spending increase in history, the intrusion of federal government into an amazing plethora of areas once reserved to municipalities and states, has crafted a foreign policy full of entrapments and entanglements that would have made Woodrow Wilson proud, and turned our (understandable and CORRECT) desire for justice and retribution after terrorist attacks into the most despicable, terrorist sponsoring (yeah, I said it, and it is TRUE), pathetic attempt at bureaucratic nation building we have seen in years. We have morphed the "war on terror" into a bureaucratic boondoggle of attempting to fit Jeffersonian Democracy over a seething pustule of Islamic Theonomic Fanaticism, and are too stubborn to admit "we made a big mistake here."

All these (decidedly NOT conservative values) were swallowed (sometimes greedily) by the conservative base, which has been willing to accept increasing statism and socialism in the name of a "war on terror" and "big government conservatism"(whatever THAT is supposed to mean).

It took the immigration issue to finally wake people up to realize "hey, this guy is just not a conservative."

Well, duh. Welcome to the party.

Michael Gerson, former Bush speech writer, labels folks like me “National Chauvanists”. You betch! And proud of it! I will not stand aside for the “proud to be” parade of nations without shouting that I am proud to be an American! If that is chauvanistic, then so be it, because
I am proud to be an American!
