George W. Bush is looking for a legacy to leave behind, and he may have found it. His approval rating now hovers at 28 percent, but with a little more work he could leave office as the most unpopular president ever. He's not there yet. When Harry S. Truman left Washington in 1953 the pollsters said only 23 percent of his countrymen were still wild about Harry. (Adulation would come later.) Pundits, historians and others who track these things reckoned no president could ever match that, but George W. has a good shot at it.
Like Harry Truman, George W. is a man with his own ideas about who he is and what he's trying to accomplish. No one but an authentic churl denies his stubborn courage. Nothing rattles his determination to win a necessary but unpopular war in Iraq, or tempers his dogged attempt to sell an even more unpopular immigration "reform" scheme. Unlike Harry Truman, this president is doing it by scorning his last remaining friends.
"Those determined to find fault with this bill will always be able to look at a narrow slice of it and find something they don't like," the president told a clutch of immigration officers at a training camp in Georgia earlier this week. An exaggeration, but we don't expect precision from politicians. The president continued:
"If you want to kill the bill, if you don't want to do what's right for America, you can pick one little aspect out of it, you can use it to frighten people."

“Sorry Psycho... but President Bush is not a moron.”
if not, he is treacherous.
Liquidating America during this distraction in Iraq - watch the magicians hands, not the props.
"Sticks and stones," bub.
It was bad enough to be accused of "not wanting to do what's right for America." So now I'm a fascist, too?
One thing is for sure. You guys certainly can't be accused of pandering to your base.
He's simply made a career out of being the lesser of two evils.
Every time he's ran for office, he could always point to a kook Dem opponent and scare up enough votes for a win as Dem Lite.
W just ruined it for Jeb
btw looks like he will make it hard for any republican to get elected. ofcourse when trot out RINOs for us to vote what are we to do?
I will never vote for another Bush family member.
I'll assume you meant Jeb. And yep, Bush's legacy is: No other Bush will ever be elected President.
Well, aside from destroying the GOP, and the mass amnesty he wants to stick us with that is.
BTW: About half our population can easily fit into moron status.
“If you want to kill the bill, if you don’t want to do what’s right for America, you can pick one little aspect out of it, you can use it to frighten people.”
Mr. Bush, clarify “you”.

Sometimes, you’ve got to hit rock bottom to rebuild.
.
And where does that leave us?
By golly, we're supposed to be good little bots and vote for them of course, cause the alternative would be far worse. That argument is getting harder and harder for some to make every day.
And quite frankly, considering I've been an (R) since I first registered to vote some 30 years ago; if the Republic is going to die, be killed off by self serving elitist politicians, I'd rather the party doing it have a (D) after their name.
I don't want to be associated with it in any way, shape, or form.
It sure looks that way.
He’ll have a legacy alright.
The most successful bait-and-switch job in American political history.
He's doing a damn fine impression of one.
So did that idiot, Jimmy Carter. We all know what the road to hell is paved with...
Where were you when he ran for office? He seems to be doing pretty much what he said he would do and it's possible you voted for him because of what he said then. Why act like the average Dim and toss names from your Ivory Tower now?
There are so many one-issue folks out there today that it's hard to believe that they were actually awake over the last 6 years. I guess that just goes to prove that the worst of human nature affects even those that call themselves "conservative" and the "progressive" liberal weenies don't have it all locked up.
Try to imagine where we would be as far as being blown away in many cities by terrorists, suffering a Carter economy, and having Nancy Pelosi-Supreme Court justices, if we hadn't elected resident Bush. Heck, you don't even have to imagine it if you want to join the Left in attacking the President, just convince a lot of folks to teach the GOP another lesson in Nov '08 and I would bet you'll be wishing for another Bush.
President Bush lifted this nation out of its despair after an outrageous and unjustied attack designed to murder 50,000 of her citizens and to kill him in the White House.
Consequently, he has brought to an end the murderous regimes of the Taliban and Saddam Hussein providing more than 50 million people with an extraordinary measure of hope and means to a better life and culture.
There has been not one repeat of the dastardly attacks made on 911.
For his excellent service, we get the vitriol of slander from a fascist left and right in this country who are more than certain that this President is no patriot.
The nation has enjoyed relentless abundance and economic affluence while prattling on about Anna Nichole and Brittany. Pretending that the height of luxury enjoyed by our citizenry is continually in jeopardy from his policies, the fascist left and right rail for his end by nearly any means.
I will not stand down in the face of the continued absurdity even if I were the last person on the planet who liked President Bush.
Applause! Applause! I was going to say the same thing but you did it so elloquently!
I think the right are starting to really believe the dems and the MSM.
I remember 9/11 and I thank God he was our president and not Kerry or Gore!! How soon we forget.
