Minuteman donor demands refund (Simcox)
The Washington Times ^ | May 31, 2007 | Jerry Seper

Posted on 05/31/2007 6:50:57 PM PDT by Anti-Bubba182

An Arizona man who donated $100,000 to help the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps build a fence along the U.S.-Mexico border wants his money back. James Campbell, a retired home builder who took out a $120,000 loan on his house to help build one mile of "Israel-style" fencing on private border land, is suing MCDC and its president, Chris Simcox, for fraud and breach of contract -- saying there has been no work on the double-security fence he was promised.

The lawsuit was filed last week in Maricopa County Superior Court in Phoenix.

Mr. Campbell, an Air Force veteran, said he donated the money "so we never have to explain to future generations how we let our national security be placed at risk." He described the contribution as a "significant portion of my retirement nest egg."

[snip].... In the lawsuit, Mr. Campbell said he spoke on three occasions in early 2006 with Peter Kunz, MCDC fence project manager, and was assured that the Israel-style barrier would be built along 10 miles of the Ladd ranch. The lawsuit said the donation was made with the stipulation that it be used to purchase steel tubing for the fence.

But it said that by the groundbreaking on May 27, 2006, the fence was changed to traditional range fence.

"To date, MCDC has not constructed any 'Israeli-style' border fencing ... in breach of agreement between it and Campbell," the lawsuit said.

[snip]....... Mr. Simcox has come under fire in recent months over questions about how much money MCDC has raised since its April 2005 founding and where it has been spent.

Mr. Simcox has dismissed the criticism, calling it a product of "those who want to destroy us and the movement."

From the beginning of MMP anytime Simcox has a problem it is, "those who want to destroy us and the movement" and never him or his 'consultants'.

Campbell was a big donor, probably the biggest, and they screwed him.

I don't see nearly as many postings here praising the Minutemen as I used to, back in the day when people would argue with those of us who questioned their efficiency. We were all called anti-American back then.

Their supporters are kinda quiet these days.

It is the same on Libery Post, in fact they get a worse beating there. Even many of the diehards see there are problems with the organization by this time.

Give Mr. Campbell his fence. The DUNCAN HUNTER SAN DIEGO FENCE.

This man marketed his house for a good cause, so something stinks here.

What was the name of the earlier group whose founder kinda went on the loose canon mode.

He was holding up at times in his “compound” and when other of his organization were arrested in jail he did nothing to help.

Trying to remember the name of his group.

That was it.
Was Simcox ever part of that group?
Or did Minuteman morph from Ranch Rescue?

No they were completely seperate. Ranch Rescue's leader had bad things to say about MMP.

Militia leader Casey Nethercott believes the border needs to be controlled; but he's against the upcoming Minuteman Project.

It is also significant that Nethercott is a bigger screwball than Simcox ever could think of being.

I’m glad Seper is still on to this story.

I hope he does a followup about Diener Consulting, its management, and the shameful tactics they use.

I recently read on a Minuteman site, how Diener basically stole a lady filmmaker’s domain names out from under her, without her consent or knowledge. There would be no reason for them to do it except financial.

Chris Simcox has done for to bring the illegal immigration problem to the forefront than anyone else.
Lawsuits are a part of doing business these days, and there are always at least two sides to every story.
A wise man would hold his condemnation until the facts are sorted out.
You can flame me if you wish, but I know Chris and I’ve been standing on our nation’s border for 20 consecutive months with the MCDC.

A wise man would hold his flame baiting taunts until the facts are sorted out. You said to me the other day, "Must be about time for your meds!"

You simply can't see the forest for the trees.

Did you mortgage your home for the Chris Simcox cause?

Mr. Simcox has dismissed the criticism, calling it a product of "those who want to destroy us and the movement."

Here are Simcox's enemies, the people "trying to destroy us and the movement"...

Bob Wright, deputy executive director
Bill Irwin, national operations officer
Greg Thompson, national training coordinator
Stacey O'Connell, Arizona state chapter director
One dozen other MCDC state chapter leaders

If these are the people Simcox defines as enemies of the movement, I'd say the organization is due for some new leadership...and pretty soon.

They can't because they spent it on...."fund raising" and "professional consultants". 275k out of 425k in '05. That's 65% of all the money raised going to outside entities Declaration Foundation and Denier Consultants.

Simcox got taken for a ride by these organizations and now he has to pay the piper. What I don't understand is why he continues to defend and support these charlatans and instead fires the volunteers who helped make the organization successful.

So let's make this clear, Simcox defends and protects the people who took all that money and gave little in return, and slanders and fires the good volunteers who have worked tirelessly over the years to make something good happen on the border.

Every member, supporter and contributor should be demanding to know...

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE $275,000 CHRIS? TELL US WHO EACH CHECK OUT OF THAT AMOUNT WAS PAID TO AND WHAT DID THE MCDC GET IN RETURN? REINSTALL THE VOLUNTEERS YOU FIRED AND NO MORE SHUCKING AND JIVING.

Possibly they pay him or kiss his ass better. I bet it is both.

"Chris Simcox has done for to bring the illegal immigration problem to the forefront than anyone else."

Agreed. But why would he let the movement be hijacked by people who it seems only care about lining their own pockets.

"Lawsuits are a part of doing business these days...",/i>

Uhhh, you usually don't expect them from your largest donors, long term supporters and volunteers. This sounds like lawyer talking points. Throw us a bone here...did you hear someone in the MCDC, Denier or Dec Found say this? Did you just repeat it?

"...and there are always at least two sides to every story."

Then why hasn't Simcox explained his? All we get from him is "we filed our reports, if that isn't good enough, eat my shorts". How about an explanation of where the donated 100K went? How about an explanation of why they didn't return the donation when requested? How about an explanation of the $275,000 buried under "fund raising" and "professional services"? How about an explanation of the contracts MCDC has with the Declaration Foundation and Denier Consulting? People have been waiting for over a year for this "side of the story" but Simcox has his lips buttoned.

"A wise man would hold his condemnation until the facts are sorted out."

This is what shysters say so the can continue to fleece the sheep while their lawyers spend 5 years delaying the facts from coming out. No thanks. We want answers now.

"You can flame me if you wish, but I know Chris and I’ve been standing on our nation’s border for 20 consecutive months with the MCDC."

You seem like a nice honest person trying to do the right thing. You say you know Simcox but do you know the people running the Declaration Foundation and Denier Consulting? This is your organization and it is being destroyed by mismanagement, shady contracts and back room deals.

And Simcox fiddles while the MCDC burns around him. Don't fiddle with him, demand answers so the MCDC can be saved.

"Chris Simcox has done for to bring the illegal immigration problem to the forefront than anyone else."

And what did he get for his work? The immigration bill before congess? Is that how Simcox and the MCDC define success? It's a complete and total disaster.

Maybe Simcox would have done better working from within the system than pounding on the glass from the outside. Maybe the MCDC could have been working with people like Tancredo and Hunter to bring a bill before congress that would actually help solve the problem instead of letting Kennedy and McCain grab the initiative and submit this massive amnesty/welfare program.

If this is how you define success and this what we get from Simcox and the MCDC "bringing the problem to the forefront", well, I'd say the plan had some flaws, wouldn't you?

Somebody didn't think this through. I will tell you this, when the movement started I sat around with some intelligent and connected friends and our anlaysis was that by bringing this issue "to the forefront" the way it was, this was exactly where we were going to end up. You put any supporters in congress on the defensive and allowed the dims to slip in and "solve the problem" on their own terms. Now the best we can hope for is the legislation gets scuttled and we end up back where we started. But I doubt it. The pubs will push for some changes that make the base a little happier but we will still end up with a massive amnesty, welfare and "bring the whole family with you" program.

Mark my words.
