How America inspired the Third Reich (seriously past barf alert)
The First Post (UK) ^ | 5/31/07 | Paul Spike

A brilliant new book by a Mexican-American historian documents how, in the Twenties and Thirties, the Nazis were inspired by what the United States had been doing to their Mexican neighbours since 1917.

In Ringside at the Revolution: An Underground Cultural History of El Paso and Juarez, David Dorado Romo establishes the US Immigration Department's systematic brutality along the Rio Grande border.

Mexican visitors were forced to strip naked and subjected to 'screening' (for homosexuality, low IQ, physical deformities like 'clubbed fingers') and to 'disinfection' with various toxic fumigants, including gasoline, kerosene, sulfuric acid,DDT and, after 1929, Zyklon-B (hydrocyanic acid) - the same gas used in the Holocaust's death camps.

The ostensible reason for the US fumigation was the fear of a typhus epidemic. Yet in 1916, the year before such 'baths' were enforced, only two cases of typhus had occurred in the poorest El Paso slum.

"This is a huge black hole in history," Romo told me. "Unfortunately, I only have oral histories and other anecdotal evidence about the harmful effects of the noxious chemicals used to disinfect and delouse the Mexican border crossers - including deaths, birth defects, cancer, etc. It may well go into the tens of thousands. It's incredible that absolutely no one, after all these years, has ever attempted to document this."

I only have oral histories

I think you might need to get a shot for that.

Yes, we all remember the speeches Hitler gave on Mexico. I think he devoted several chapters of mein kampf to Juarez alone. It is also well known that the white background on which the swastika is displayed is in fact a tortilla.

the Nazis were inspired by what the United States had been doing to their Mexican neighbours since 1917.

The author not surprisingly failed to mention that ole 'Dolph was inspired by Britain's occupation of India -- specifically, the ease with which they controlled close to a billion people.

"What India was for England, the territories of Russia will be for us" - A.H.

Hydrocyanic acid was developed by a Jewish Nobel Laureate chemist named Fritz Haber.

Haber died while trying to emigrate from Germany in 1934 and the Nazis murdered most of his family.

Haber specialized in pesticides, fertilizers and delousing agents, and hydrocyanic acid was marketed worldwide as a delousing agent.

Haber's Nobel was earned because of his invention of a process that created non-organic fertilizer - a process that has fed countless millions since its invention.

Before WWII Mexican authorities used hydrocyanic acid as a delousing agent in prisons, schools and sanatoriums, just as AMericans and others worldwide did.

It was an unnamed SS chemist who advocated prolonged exposure to supersized doses in small, closed spaces as an effective way to murder large groups of people.

Another piece:

Behind Perle’s oily gravitas lies a different kind of barbarism

*************************EXCERPT******************************

a book analysing how the American public has become 'seduced' by a fantasy version of cost-free militarism.

This process of seduction is partly due to the tireless efforts of war trolls such as Perle and Bolton. To the imperial mindset of these desktop warriors, foreign policy always boils down to the cathartic killing of America's enemies, generally of the darker-skinned variety. No matter how great the carnage, they are unrepentant and utterly indifferent, dismissing the destruction of entire societies as strategic victories.

These men are cynical, shameless and without honour. Asked by a distraught young American widow whose husband had died in Iraq why the administration went to war, Perle replied without batting an eyelid that the information on 'our desks' kept saying that Saddam had WMD. Perle does not mention that such information was essentially commissioned - a manoeuvre that enables men like him to lie without actually lying.

Perle, Bolton and co often pontificate on the unique moral evil of terrorism. But in their contempt for human life and their appetite for war they are not that different from Osama bin Laden. Unlike Osama, they will not be found in the Hindu Kush carrying a Kalashnikov. They are war trolls, endlessly manipulating the public from TV studios. In this sense they are more like the Roman senators who grew rich and fat while the legions went out to 'create a wasteland and call it peace', as Tacitus once put it.

And another opinion piece:

You are still a coward, Mr Bush

******************************EXCERPT****************************

Mr President, five years ago I wrote that you "skedaddled" on 9/11. The word was coined during the Civil War to describe those who ran away from battle, which is what you did when you flew to faraway hidey-holes after the Twin Towers attack.

I'm sure you didn't see my column, given your notorious reluctance to venture beyond Washington and Texas. Others did read it, though, and many of them were furious. They accused me of treason because I pointed out your cowardice.

I wonder how those critics feel about you now.

At the time, the details of how you dodged service in Vietnam and then went AWOL from the Air National Guard weren't widely reported by a media that coddled you. Since 9/11, we've had many opportunities to reflect on your history and observe you in action.

from the article:
“...the Nazis were inspired by what the United States had been doing
to their Mexican neighbours since 1917.
(big snip)
Mexican visitors were forced to strip naked and subjected to (snip)
‘disinfection’ with various toxic fumigants, including gasoline,
kerosene, sulfuric acid,DDT and, after 1929, Zyklon-B (hydrocyanic acid) -
the same gas used in the Holocaust’s death camps.”

I really wonder if DDT was being used between 1917 and Dec. 7, 1941
for the stated purpose.
It sounds like DDT wasn’t really appreciated for use in fighting pests
until just about the onset of WWII.
(Additionally, I wonder if the actual brand “Zyklon-B” was being
imported into the USA; maybe the hydrocyanic acid used was produced domestically).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDT

DDT was first synthesized in 1874 by Othmar Zeidler, but its insecticidal
properties were not discovered until 1939 by the Swiss scientist Paul
Hermann Müller, who was awarded the 1948 Nobel Prize in Physiology and
Medicine for his efforts.[4]
